Blm/rdm

So its becoming common now that many BLMs sub RDM after 66 or so for fast cast and despell. But people who have PT with BLM/RDMs at those levels, does it really make a big difference? And does the BLM losing the WHM sub affect the PT negatively in any way? Is the cast rate really that much faster? My RDM is still far from being sub-able, and probably still won't be when Genkai 5 comes around. I don't know how comfortable I'd feel not having the curega spells, among other things from the WHM job. Will it be a requirement for all BLMs to have RDM sub 71+ for an effective party?

Bottomline is, I've been playing BLM and WHM exclusively since May last year, and since my play time is very limited, if its not necessary, really don't feel like wasting time leveling another mage job and shelling out to buy Despell.

in a full group with whm it might not hurt. But I have duo with my blm friend before and I can say not being able to cure status really hurts. I went to Beaucedine killing tigers with my BLM friend one day. I was 70rdm/thf and he was 57blm/rdm. The tiger used group paralyse on us and we both got paralysed on a double-ice-weather ice day....

to make it even worse 2 ice elementals attacked us. And paralyse becamse very very powerful from the weather+day - -'' I at level 70 got 90% of my moves blocked by paralyse and the BLM can't do anything to help me and of course the BLM died. I survived but barely made it....

BLM that can't cure status = not helpful. To me. Period.

Usually BLMs shouldn't have to sub RDM under level 66 or so because its still easy to double MB 3-hit level 3 renkeis until Thunder 3 and Stone 4 before then. But from there onwards ~

eg.
Dark renkei - 1st MB Blizzard3 - 2nd MB Stone4

Stone4 can be quite hard to drop in right after casting Blizzard 3 with WhM sub if the last melee hits it quickly. Its do-able, but it requires a lot concentration, and it will only get harder as we get more 4 series spells.

I haven't checked the book, but what cure status spells and healing spells does RDM have at around lvl 35-40?

Say you have a party of the following:
Galka whm
Mithra thf/nin
Elvaan pld/war
Taru whm/smn

Should blm still sub whm from levels 20-60? Whm combined MP is enough for healing, so would /rdm be better?

For now, the only benefits of subbing RDM is fast cast and despell. 3 patches later, however, probably all lvl 82+ BLMs will sub RDM for refresh, but that's like a year away.

Fast Cast is not needed before Thunder3, Despell is only accessible by RDM as a sub job at near 60 (i think, can't remember), and WHM sub gives more MP and spells at the same sub level.

In your config, the blm should definitely sub whm since you only have 5 ppl and the Galka whm with no sub will be out of MP after using like 2 spells ~

Effective party usaully contain brd,whm,blm or brd,rdm,blm etc.
And brd usually sub rdm? if it is, don't worry about Dispel.

I think sub whm or rdm is not much different.
If you miss version4 MB, it still take some damage from monster.
I believe it's ok... (I never saw a blame to blm who missed the MB)

Yea, that's what I was hoping, was in a PT with BRD and RDM, literally non-stop massacre, especially after the Clear Mind upgrade. But usually when I'm in a pt with BRD and WHM, seems like most of the BRDs don't have RDM subs or don't use them. It'd be sweet if I don't have to worry about Despell, rather buy some nice accessories for other jobs than buy that spell for the same price.

Its rough sometimes though, even when people don't say anything, I feel bad missing MBs at this level.

Speaking of Tele, forgot why we needed to use it, but I was in a PT with a lvl 68-70 whm who didn't have one of the Mea, Hora, Temu spells, but as long as he had Raise 2, its all good w

Hiya peacemaker you definitly have more experience than me, but this is what I have found most effective (in a higher lv config I guess)

at least one job should have whm sub, so in a typical config, lets say its WAR THF and DRK, and mages are RDM BLM WHM. I think the only neccesity is either the BLM or RDM sub WHM to support the WHM for such healing, the other jobs can sub another I guess. While leveling RDM sometimes, I find a leader might invite another RDM, I have seen a WHM suffer with mp in certain PTs because both RDMs subbed BLM, thus cannot use curega or status heals. From than onwards, I decided to reverse the sub role to that of the 3rd mage.

In my situations I would either sub the opposite or ask the mage whether they want to sub whm or another.

If a WHM aint in the PT, I just think so long as 2of the mage
jobs sub WHM thats fine.

Was in a unusual setup a few days ago (ironically decent and fun). It was 61WAR, 58RNG, 61THF, DRK59/29WHM, SMN 61/30WHM and myself RDM62/31BLM. Played for about 90mins before maintenance.

Hope this helps when deciding what to sub, I honestly think every PT is unique enough to make a spontanious decision even if it was the foreseen one

Yeah, I definitely agree. As long as there are at least 2 people healing and at least one with refresh/ballad, the PT should be good to go. The downside is, since experience comes so slowly in higher lvls, PTs can't form without RDMs and BRDs. So generally, if a leader takes a BRD, next he takes a RDM and a WHM - which means the next person trying to make a party has less refresh/ballad people to choose from and PTs take forever to form.

I know I will have to level RDM for sub at some point, just trying to see how long I can put it off. Been wanting to play a melee job for a change, but now BLMs, especially post lvl 66, seem to have an increased obligation to have RDM sub as an option. Wish I can just pay someone to lvl my RDM when I'm working/sleeping :thumbsup: j/k

not really, not when everyone have vermillion cloak. like the other day that i was making pt i invited a whm and she asked me if her friend (smn) can join. seeing there was only me and her (2 backline) in the pt i couldn't reject and said yes. i thought its gonna suck, however both of them had vermillion cloak (;?fŒû?f) and the smn had some mad 1337 ƒpƒ‰ƒi‚ƃTƒCƒŒƒi?@ƒXƒLƒ‹;;

Yea, its more expensive to maintain an Elvaan blm than a taru or mithra or even hume, we need to allocate money and space to buy and change a larger set of equip for int/mp boost, among other things.

I don't think MP regen speed is that big a deal as most people think, of course it'd be nice to have Vermillion coat or Black Cloak to supplement MP, but so far as long as there is 1 RDM or BRD in PT, there is hardly any downtime when just chaining totes - in fact, if we are really good with MP management, even just a whm/brd can be sufficient when there are no rdms or brds around. Of course the PT will not be as efficient, but at least its better than waiting hours in Jeuno for a BRD or RDM to pop.

I don't want to play RDM either, not because I don't like the job, but because its like playing BLM and WHM all over again from level 1 (>.<), at least SMN gets some new animations to look at. And SMN, from lvl 70 on with new abilities, is very powerful.

I love playing BLM, but it wasn't my initial intention to play the job to this level, it was simply because I don't have time to level other jobs... I want to see my Elvaan wearing the white shiny PLD AF someday :cool:

I have no money, black robe is beyond what I can afford, and I may never get it cause there is potential that AF2 might be released after the next patch. Unless we lead, Elvaan BLMs are last picks anyway, whether we have Black Cloak or not, its more for self satisfaction.

You should have no problem lvling SMN if you can level BLM to 70 in such a short time, 65-70 SMN is more popular than BLM (TT) Should be fun too, that new dog summon coming soon, right?

I don't plan on lvling RDM to Refresh level (41) until it can sub BLM, at lvl 82. And will only level SMN to sub WHM. It'd be cool though, perhaps we can level my PLD(or RDM) and your SMN together some time.

dude smn is no way in favor than blm at 65-70... i have always got in situation where there are smn out there and i get picked for pt and that's no WAIT, like i go ƒgƒCƒŒ with pt sign up and come back i get tells. especially since pld get swift dude... 2mb is beyond sexy XD

You're lucky you get tells, I've waited 5-6 hours with nothing at all. You and I play different hours, there are like a thousand BLMs 68-70 playing JST evenings, and 98% of them are tarus. Its hard to even lead cause all the rdms and brds are taken before they even put up their invite.

Let's PT when we happen to be at the same level with whatever jobs at those random times - my PLD is very low lvl atm and I need to lvl RDM.

Yeah I started blm today ... I really like it more than blm it's a fun job but I like whm, rdm, and blm so ^^ I have many choice to choose from so far blm is my favorite but there are it's times I miss a job :sweat:
