Help a poor man out?!

okay im officially stuck between choosing the elf or the tarutaru.

I want to do both close up fighting jobs (warrior/ninja/pal/etc.)
But i also want to do some magic classes.

I know the elvaan can do melee classes well but would they also be some pretty tough casters as well?

The tarutaru are good casters but are they good melee fighters??
I would choose tarutaru but im afraid im going to die very quickly as my level rises.

Any help will be apreciated !! :handsdown

You can do whatever you like with all races, with not-so-many penalties. So you can have either, and still be very good at the job you choose. Of course, you'll have quite a disadvantage over the others who chose exactly for their jobs.

So: Don't worry, unless you want to be a Hume to be on the safe side, just choose whatever your heart desires, you shouldn't be facing any hard problems, just some TINY added challenges ;)

I know for sure that Taru make the worst fighter type job. Main reason is because of their low HP, VIT, DEX, AGI and STR. Elvaan don't make great mage but they can still do the job fairly well, they also make great fighters. One thing that you might want to consider is that Mage are much less popular on most server and theres a huge amount of fighter type Job, you will probably be playing your mage most of the time, wether you like it or not. I would go Taru unless you really intent to be a fighter most of your time, then go Elvaan. Also note that Elvaan make great PLD and they also make ok White Mage because they have very high MND and HP.

Play whatever you like best, as posted above.

Elvaan make good tanks and fighters, but have low MP pools, so are not very good spellcasters. They are terrible at being Thieves and Rangers due to low Dexterity and Agility.

Tarutaru are great spellcasters, but terrible at melee damage and tanking. They do make decent Rangers and Thieves though not as good as Mithra.

Mithra are great Thieves and Rangers, and are average at all other jobs except for Bard and Beastmaster, where their low Charisma hurts them.

Galka are phenomenal fighters and tanks, but make terrible spellcasters due to extremely low MP, and are weak Bards, and Beastmasters due to low Charisma.

Humes are average all the way around.

From your description you sound like you'll really want to play either Hume or Mithra.

Well i might go tarutaru but i want to do good an average amount of jobs. i know i will do good in rdm/whm/blm and im wondering if ill do good in some jobs like

drg/thf/ranger/bard/summ/monk and maybe the occasional drk/pal/war

THF: B
RNG: B
PLD: C
NIN: D
MNK: D
DRG: D
WAR: D
SAM: D
DRK: D

Tarutaru basically are bad at any job that deals melee damage and/or does not use MP.

Well i thought of an idea. i will make one account with 2 chars, one elvaan one taru. im able to do that right?

Can you tell me the pros and cons in doing this.

Tarus have the 2nd highest agi after Mithras, and average dex. Elvaans have the lowest agi and dex.

I am actually my goal is being a Taru Drk/thf. The only reason why I am lvling my Whm now is because after being in Beta, I know that the Teleport spells are so VERY useful.

Taru's make one of the best Plds and pretty good fighter classes. Albeit not the best, but being a taru you will get to know your limits.

lvl36whm/blm can get a lot of things done fast in a very short time. Due to Teleport/warp spells.

Well of course Altepa and Yoater spells are lvl 38 and Vahzl is 42.. but thats for the latter part of the game..

It's kind of frightening on how adorable Tarus are. I didn't think anything could really make DRK or SAM AF look cute. But... I stand corrected. The Taru Samurai's just so durn cute! :sweat:

MessiahX, you could have two characters, but I wouldn't really recommend it unless you have your heart set on two impossibly different characters. If good spell-casting and good melee attacks are what you want, you might as well just go with an all-around hume or elvaan if you'd rather have melee attacks over magic.

I think it's amusing that the Japanese have an affliction with making powerful Taru's. I've seen Taru Dragoons, Monks, etc. Any race can be any class, you just won't be as good as the race that's meant for it. You'll probably have to offset the balance with expensive or specific equips that add to the stats you're lacking.
