OK, for the moment I am unable to even setup Playonline becasue I can't download the patches. I use the shared ethernet connection my college provides, and when calling Square-Enix, they said that most college students have been unable to play the game. I've sent an email to the campus computer services, but they're not open on weekends, so I'l have to wait until Monday to hear from them.

Anyway, I'm just wondering, has anyone else here experienced the same problem, and if so, have you been able to get past it?

If things don't turn out well, I have to wait until summer to play this game. I've been waiting two years for it, and now it looks like I'l have to wait even longer than the PS2 people. -_- At least next year I can live off campus and not have to worry about this.

*bashes head against wall*

I fear the same thing is going to happen to me when I go back today... I'm at home at the moment but I can't install it here cos the CDs are fucked up, so I'll be able to use a shared college computer to dump the CD and copy it over to my laptop, but then I won't be able to update it. Good grief, my life in Vana'diel is really getting off to a good start...

There are three outcomes, two of the solutions. The first one will depend on your school policies and how anal/stupid the computer management department is. They will have to configure their firewall to allow the connection.

The second solution is to find a proxy server on the internet that you can connect to and tunnel to their server with a connection that can go through your campus firewall.

The third outcome is SOL.

I decided I'd bump this because I'm also concerned about not being able to play when I go back to college. I have played a couple games online such as Halo PC and Unreal Tournament, but I am concerned because FFXI is an MMORPG and probably needs extra ports open.

[EDIT] It works fine at home and I'm behind a router, so should it work fine at college behind a firewall? I really hope I'll be able to run ffxi at college b/c when I bought it I planned on playing it during college as well as at home.

I'd like to find out how many, if any, were able to play FFXI at college without any problems. Please post your experiences with playing FFXI on a college internet connection.

I hope that I can play FFXI in college or it would really suck. If I can't I might have to quit because I'd only be able to play in the summer and also during the few times I'd be at home during the year.

Well, I'm in college now and currently I'm unable to play FFXI, might have to wait until winter break to play. Anyone know how to use a program such as httpproxy to connect? Please help if possible.
