Only FFXI doesn't like my Xbox controller, why?

Never had problems with my Xbox controller but in FFXI I can't get it to config. I tried 3 different drivers, nothing. It just doesn't detect button presses or stick movements. Strangly vibration does seem to work.

Any ideas?

I don't have any problems with it. I'm using the driver from www.psxpad.com right now.

NOTE TO NEW PLAYERS
Don't bother configuring your gamepads until FFXI is fully updated. After the update my controller works.

:confused: Not defending the Xbox, but I find it amazing how even tho it was said that it wasnt the controllers fault but fixed by a software update, yet ppl still managed not to read the whole post and still Xbox bash just to do it lol. (Very reminisant of the PSX vs. N64 bashing of the old days lol, pointless and little to no back up to most claims)
Ppl can be really close minded at times seeing as this was the first post about the Xbox controller but I saw quite a few about PS2 controller not working right, but no one dares "bash" Sony.
God forbid Sony gets bashed lol :rolleyes: . Sometimes I think the ppl that say this are just a bunch of lemmings that dont know the issues, but just jump on the hate bandwaggon wanting to be cool and on the winning side. :cool:
Even after all those millions of faulty PS2 units and a huge on going lawsuit over their tech support making thousands ppl to pay to replace units that should by law be replaced by Sony free of charge. (even I got one)
Yet ppl still love it over the Xbox cause no one can give a lucky nerd credit for working his way up the ladder and wanting what we all want, that being a fortune lol. I say some ppl need to get off Bill Gates back, cause if any of us were in his shoes we'd be doing the same financial moves lol.
Dont get me wrong I have a PS2 and I love it :handsdown: , but quality/durability wise Sony is horrid in most products they make lately. Ive had to buy a second PS2, but my Xbox is still running great. So the Xboxs game library isnt great, but some where along the line Sony became very lazy in manufacturing and its sad to see when a company feels it doesnt need to strive for its customers respect anymore. :(

Yea sony's ps2 can't ready dual layer dvds. Whos to blame on this, the game producer, or sony? Oh wow, older ps2's can't read dual layer dvds, but my xbox can read my gamecube games! Should microsoft be liable for replacing all their units because one format of disk don't run on their system?

Another thing about the hate for microsoft. Unlike microsoft, Sony does not hold a monopoly in anything. Microsoft has the financial status to back up their xbox even if it lost money. Just because Microsoft practically dominated the operating systems industry, I think consumers are getting pissed off that microsoft is now moving onto the gaming industry. Another thing people get pissed off about is the fact that now there are three competitors for the console war. It would've only been 2 if microsoft did not decide to join. If this was a perfect world, all the game swould be on ONE console. That way, I don't have to buy a GC for zelda, a ps2 for ff, and an xbox for halo. People are getting bitter that their favorite games are being spread among three consoles.

About the quality and durability issue. I think sony's product has been very reliable. A lot of the electronics at my house are from Sony because I've known them for reliability. I bought an mp3 player 4 or 5 years ago from Sony, and it still works now despite the fact that I used it constantly and I've dropped it on solid concrete many times. Maybe some people think that sony is not reliable, but from my personal expereince, sony has been a very good manufacturer.

plus who in god's name wants to hold a VCR(circa 1984) in your hands while you play a FPS?

Ah but see thats one of my points, can you really hate a man who got lucky and got a monopoly? No offense but as time has shown us a company may get one, but NO one can hold on to it. We all rave that hes greedy moving to the game market, but take a look at the PS2 systems specs, even when it came out it was substandard equipment in most nerd eyes. It was all about security (With that maze of a CPU) from Sonys eyes and stopping hacking and MOD chipping. I mean come on that is wasted time and money considering someone ALWAYS hacks something eventually lol. Most of you back up Sony but from the Temple of Doom like machine they built it more looks they dont trust any of us lol, yet you back them up fully.
Yet Bill goes outa his way and adds a hard drives and even a at the time top of the line Nvidia grapics card to building a game machine that he to this day is still loosing money to. I mean so its one more market hes moving into, but his machine had no maze for a CPU. Hell you can even install Linux on the Xbox! lol but nooooo the Microsoft is the bastards.
Can we hold all his cash against the Xbox? Hmm if those are your reasons i have to say thats lacking in sufficient reasoning for being against something. The Xbox will prolly never make Gates a cent, let that be all the revenge the petty ppl need.
As a closing thought just remember, if it wasnt for the Xbox comming into the market im sure the PS2 would still be around 250 dollars and Halo would have never been born. Count your blessings cause somethings are just part of evolution.

I think it was noticed it was taken care of very early on, as you could tell from my first response. :) As for the other part my point was fairly similar, you can like them all with out being biased.
But from there you start missing what we are discussing, that being you just have to understand this isnt a perfect world and not all will share your nuetral outlook of everything "great" lol. And there will always be differing sides in each type of battle... and the nuetrals are usually the minority (I study corporate law, so i've seen more bad than good). :biggrin:

OMG I can't believe my question thread has become into a flame war :). I'm using the Xbox controller because IMO it is the best and highest quality controller there is. All the PC controllers I tried felt cheap, light, weak and flimsy.

his controller worx now..mine does but i cant play it cuz the 2 usb ports on the front of my pc...are broken..and i only got 1 in back so i gotta unplug the mouse and thats 2 big of a hassel to plug and unplug everytime i log off and then back on.........

xbox may have the best shoooter..halo unreal halo2 (soon) brute force was fun....what really good game did they have that wasnt a shooter? NONE!

Ps2 on the other hand has..umm..hmm *sigh* socom socomII tribes is allright...madden series(best footbal games) FFXI(soon) IMO a better feelin controller...and it has other good games too :) i just am drawin a blank now:angel:

Which drivers are you using? I can't get mine to work even if I enable the controller in the FFXI config program.
