:o I've been trying to find a good subjob to be once I hit that lvl, and I keep bumping back between theif, monk, and black mage.

White mages have good healing, and thats my main,.
Monks - Good Attack
Theif - Good attack
Black mage - good magic + mp

So im torn between those... warrior even popped into my head at first, but I couldn't wear the armor so I kinda went away from it.

Im guessing black or red mage would be best because of the mana and avalability to wear the clothing/weapons/ and what not.

Only Black Mage is good from those.
But you can use Red Mage too or when u get Summoner.

a non mage job as your support for whm is useless absolutely useless

red mage isnt to great either

black mage is good lots of mana some lower black spells that will almost always be useless but soem good buff/debuff spells

summoner - perfect for a sole whm tons and tons of mp

bard- can get some lower things done, not bad since they dont require mp to sing

I agree with Mirri.

When you choose your sub, generally you will want to choose one that will benefit your main job. Things that will benefit the Whm and the Whm's role as healer/support for the pt:

Blm:

Enfeeble spells, good mp increase, useful Blm spells.

Escape is such a useful spell, it can usually always save a pt from death. However the attacking spells are not very useful when your fighting monsters of your whm's lvl or higher.

Smn:

the Smn gives a lot of mp, and auto refresh. Very useful for the whms who dislike down time (even though it is enivitable). but with some summons such as Garuda with the the ability to cast pt wide Blink is always nice. The Summons all have a special move, and calling the summon and using that move then calling it back is the best way to go.

Brd:

this is an extremely helpful sub, with the helpful songs, however some beleive that because you are singing it takes away from time possibly needed to cast a spell. IMO a good whm will know when to be start singing in battle to help his pt, or prepare the song before engaging in battle.

Rdm:

this still is a very viable sub, Rdms give some mp boost but however, the abilities and spells attained are very useful. With Rdm, the Whm also gets more Magic Defense, and as well gets the ability Fast cast, which cuts down the spell casting time (very useful). With such spells as Phalanx and Dispel, which are available under the lvl cap are nice to have in a pt. Also Refresh however is still very useful to use it as a sub, one would need lvl82Whm and that is past our current lvl cap.

I like BLM sub so far, the extra spells are nice. Being able to bind a monster that wants to go after me should come in handy.

I can participate in the magic burst goodness having a few elemental damage spells ;) even if the damage is weak.

For the effort, im unsure if it will be worth it, but im going whm/smn as a taru.

I want to be the most effective WHM i can possibly be...this is simply a logical extention of that imo :/ BLM is nice, but i expect either a BLM or RDM to be in any serious PT i am involved with anyhow....which would render my sub useless.

Too many times already, at lvl 26, my role has been to simply pump as much hp into targets as i can, with other classes covering all my other responsibilities. The longer i stayed on my feet with high MP the more xp we get, and the safer, effectively, battles became.

If i can manage my role in a pt well, i can, and have begun to find many players already that are more than capable of accomplishing what their job is meant to do, at an above average level. Combine these classes in a pt and you have a far better pt than one meant to try and be one job and part of another.

I realize im talking about a perfect situation here, but its my way of deciding what i want to do..besides that...I love SMN, and ill likely eventually make it my main instead of whm :) so the decision is moot, really :)

don't forget the good old black mage though, I mean escape is awesome and the tractor thing isn't bad either. I'd use it to handle all of the cries for revive that I know whm's get plagued with and frankly I don't have it in my heart to not revive someone if I can help it because I always want that to happen to me. So maybe I can help set the trend as it were. Yet I'm too lazy to run over there to help so I'll just tractor the corpses.

sorry but can you explain how tractor and escape works? Thanks.

Tractor moves a dead player's body within your casting range to the caster's position. It is primarily used when you run into a NM or other nastiness that you can't kil. Tractor the corpse, then cast Raise in a safe location.

Escape is an interesting (and very useful) spell. When cast, it teleports all players in your party to the nearest outdoor zone boundary (does not work in outdoor zones). Cast within Inner Horutoto, for instance, it will send you to either West Sarutabaruta, or East Sarutabaruta (depending on which tower you were in).
