My system:
Celeron 1.8ghz
512DDR 2700 RAM
GeForce4 MX 440
2mbit/128kb cable connection

Everytime I play the game, it will work for a few minutes, then become very lagged, then freeze for a minute, then disconnect me.

I've tried playing the game with the least possible options, yet the same exact thing happens.

I've tried calling tech support at Sony's PlayOnline and the guy told me that a lot of people with MX cards have the same problem, and will not be able to play this game.

So I guess what I want to know is:
1) Is anyone else having this problem?
2) Is there a way around it without getting a new card?
3) Is what the tech support guy said true?

Any advice would be appreciated. I really would like to be able to play the game I spent money on. :/

Do you have the latest drivers for your card? That's about all I can think of. I myself have a GeForce 2 MX 400 with a 1.3Ghz P4 and 384 Mb rdram and it runs pretty decent for me on the default setting.

I am using the Nforce2 with onboard Geforce4 MX440 with 128/128 ADSL. it works fine. no lagging and stuff.

Are you certain this is not a network problem? have you played other online games?

I have had problem playing the game due to graphic display problem, but it is easily solved by changing couple parameters. (disable bump mapping, enable fog emulationg. that's it)

anyway, try update the driver first to see how it goes (besure to uninstall it first before installing the new driver), then try the directX, if still no good..

that's all I can think of.. good luck to you.

Well, I just went out and bought a GeForce FX 5900 128DDR.

The game hasn't froze/booted me yet, but it's still very choppy when I battle or when there are a few characters on screen.

I've tried turning a lot of stuff off, but the problem persists! :P'

This card gets about 1400 on the benchmark.

I use a 1.8 celeron with 512 ram. Using a Geforce FX 5200 too and I scored 2000 on the benchmark. I also play the game on 56K modem and its plays fine.

I have no clue what your prob is, you should be running comfortably with thoses specs. Only thing I can think of that its your internet conection not your computer.

It could very well be my internet connection, I suppose.

Although, would the connection cause me to have a drastically lower score than you although I have a higher end video card?

Sounds to me like it's a bit more complex then just network problem or video card. Check to make sure there isn't any obvious background programs running. The only background program you may to keep running is any firewall/virusscan programs.

If there isn't any obvious programs running then I suggest either using Microsofts "netstat" command or better to use something like "Visual Tracker".

The goal there is to make sure there isn't possibly a hidden worm or background program that's using your network bandwith without your knowledge.

Also I'd look into doing a quick scan on your computer for any AdWare or SpyWare programs (These programs can be damaging to your computers performance, and are currently legal for companies to use. These programs also tend to waste network bandwidth, generating popups when you use the Internet Explorer or monitoring your keystrokes while you're online.)

If all of that seems like to much of a hassel then I suggest a total reformat of your drive so you can start out with a totally clean slate again. Remember to backup important data you don't want to loose..
