Hi, I'm a level 4 white mage (just started last night), and I'm really enjoying myself. However, I have one question ... my job at creation was black mage, but then after I started, I switched jobs at lvl 1. Does this affect my starting stats at all? And, is it worth starting over? Note, my race is Taru.
Thanks,
Jurai

Each job has different beginning stats. So when you switched from black mage to white mage, your stats changed to better suit the white mage. Its not as much as your "starting over". since you can change back to black mage at anytime. But since your Black mage is lower leveled than your white mage, Alot of your stats will be lower than whites, because white is 3 levels ahead of you.
example.
If you were to switch from white mage to a level 1 monk, You would lose all of your mp, but gain alot more strength and hp, and would lose alot, if not all of your INT and MND
Later in the game, you will be able to sub a job. Meaning you level 2 different jobs, you use one as your main, and the other as a sub. Your subjob caps at half of your mains level. So if you were level 18 WHM, A BLM sub could get to 9. So leveling 2 different jobs is a must in this game, and its not really a big deal since you will most likely be using WHM and BLM for main and sub.

Nothing is permanently lost by changing jobs. Switching from Black Mage to White Mage at level one is exactly the same as starting as a White Mage. :)

Thanks for info guys; wasn't sure if I messed up my character at creation.
I have one more question and I think I'll be set. :) I'm Taru, and I started in Bastok (thereby not getting the starting ring); however, I read that this ring can be acquired via a quest/mission. Is this true? I tried searching, but couldn't find anything relevant really. Any info is appreciated, of course.

You should have received an "Adventurer's Coupon" upon first arriving in Bastok. Turn that into the correct NPC (I don't remember the name, but she's somewhere in Bastok Markets if I recall correctly) to receive the Bastokan Ring.
I can't really tell you any more than that since I played as a Windurstian in beta (and now also in retail).
