View Full Version : It took me 2 hours to get to Level 2

Ok, what am I doing wrong? I was partied up with one other guy who helped me attack everything up to Orcs, which were too tough for us. He was a Red Mage, he got to level 2 after about 10 minutes. It took me about an hour and a half. I would cast heal on him or attack the target, or do both at the same time. No matter what, I wasn't getting more than 15xp for victory!
All of my friends and I started playing Wednesday and they're all at least lvl 6 now while I'm level 2. I'm the only White Mage.
Is it supposed to be this hard to start as a White Mage? I've searched other topics but it doesn't seem that anybody else is having the trouble I am!
Please help. :handsdown

Solo monsters in Ronfaure as long as you can, preferably untill level 10 then head to La Theine and look for a group.
Partying at low levels really nukes the EXP big time.
I wouldn't party up untill at least level 7, but if you can, solo to 10 then find a group for La Theine.

Ok, thank you...I guess I'll try that.
It's just that I don't know if I will be able to beat much. My little character deals about 3-4 damage with each hit.
Maybe Tarutaru is not a good white mage?

I was a Tarutaru whm in beta ^^
I'll admit, its hard to level up when you 1st start out, but make sure you buy some spells to help you, like Dia and Paralyze.
But once you get to La Theine and get some good PT's going, its smooth sailing from then on.

What? R u serious!?!? I can't beleive it... 2 days, god thats alot og gaming!!! U said we'd better buy some good spell like paralyse, do we start with a small ammonce of money? or with simply no $$$ at all? Some PPL told me it was ver hard to get money in that game, is that true? So if it's hard to get money it's hard to get spells?

I'm in Windurst, where did you find Paralyze? I don't see it for sale anywhere....

I'm in San D'Oria.....I wanted to go where my friends were. Is this going to make it much harder for me since I didn't start in Windhurst?

You start out with very little gil, but the easiest way to get gil at lower levels is doing quests and killing Yagudos, Orcs, and Quadavs. (Yagudos if you r in windurst, Orcs if you r in sandoria, and Quadavs if you r in bastok) They should drop about 10-20 gil a pop.
Edit: Yagudos in Giddeus, Orcs in Ghelsba, and Quadavs in Palborough (sp?) will drop better gil then the ones outside of town.

Some Yagudos drop Paralyze, I'm not quit sure which ones though. But I'm pretty sure the magic shop in Port Sandoria has Paralyze for sale.
Edit: Don't forget to check the AH! ^^

Not really. Once you get higher level, you can travel to different cities with ease.

White mage below Level 11 is really hard. Soloing is much more efficient than grouping as tanks are unable to do combo attack. At level 11 when white mage has cure 2 you will find yourself popular.

Something that wasn't addressed or asked was, what level were you and what level was the red mage when you were grouping together? If you were very close in levels you should have gotten around the same exp. he was getting.

I'm a newbie at this, so it's really difficult to solo (under level 10) at the moment. I'm level 5, still with the same starting equipment, Cure, Dia, and I am from Bastok. Very hard to make money too. >_< Spells costs so much.
Tunnel worms, and huge hornets give me bad exp now... stone eaters give semi-ok exp (but they don't seem to spawn a lot), and quadavs still seem hard. I am not sure about the other monsters around, because I don't want to die and lose the already hard-to-get exp. ^^;;;
I'd like to solo to about lvl 10-11 before starting to party, because nobody would want to party and such a low level anyway. ^^;; What do you guys suggest I level on? Any tips on making money (in Bastok area)?

Vomp Hill is the place to be at 7-11. When you exit Bastok from the Markets, open your map, you can't miss it. It's right outside the gate.

The easiest way to make money is to make sure you get Signet cast on you by the I.M. guard at the city gates before you go outside. If you have Signet, the mobs you kill will drop crystals. You can sell these crystals at the AH. On my server, a stack of 12 fire crystals sells for 2500-3000 gil.
For spells, be sure to check both the AH and the scroll shop in town. Alot of times, people mark up the spells on the AH alot more than you can buy them for at the scroll shop.
Also, I would suggest buying the highest dmg hammer you can find as soon as you are high enough level. And buy a shield ASAP. Pull the mob with "Banish", followed by "Dia" if it has high defense, and then melee it down with your hammer, casting cure on yourself if needed.
I solo'd my Elvaan WHM to 11, without too much trouble. It wasn't fast by any means, as you pretty much have to stick to easy prey or decent challenge, but once you hit 11, and get Cure2, groups will start needing/wanting you.

That's too bad. Usually when I help someone out I might get hit once or twice by the monster but then the person I helped gets the hate aimed back on him/herself. Did the person you helped just run off? Oh well, I would recommend that you don't help people unless you are at full strength (or close) and you've checked the strength of the monster so you know what you may be getting in to.
Of course I probably still would've helped the person and ended up dying if I was in your position... I just can't help myself. I feel this need to help everyone! I mean, I picked WHM for a reason, right?

It shouldn't be too hard for you to level to 11. Stick with easy and decent challenge enemies because they're a whole ton faster below level 13 and make sure to pick up a Circlet, Robe, Shield, and a Hammer at level 5.
Bastok is really the best place for White Mages early on. Easy enemies, good experience, excellent money making and all the items you need until upper levels (assuming Bastok is 2nd in the conquest). Took me 4 hours to get to 10. Then again, I've been playing WHM since English Beta so I know most of the tricks for the first 30 levels.
Also if you have a good 1hand hammer it can help you out alot.

Heh, got sick of taking 34983 hours to level up, so I decided to look for a party. I wandered the damn continent from Windurst to La Theine plateau and no one wanted to group. Started at level 9, finished at level 8. Got pissed off and logged.
Looked around for a hammer too and couldn't find any. The only hammer for sale at the auction was level 16.
Guess I'll just have to solo mobs that give 15 exp. By the time I get level 11 the levelcap will be 185.

If you're in Bastok, you can pick up a Hammer at the Weapons Shop in Bastok Market. It's one of the people selling stuff in the back room. It's a level 5 Hammer that does 8 damage. In Bastok Mines, go to the knick-knack shop and pick yourself up a robe and shield. Shields are your best friend, once the shield skill raises itself up, you can count on it being your best friend in longer battles and against enemies who hit for massive damage. if you can, get a circlet for one extra defense.
After that, fight weaker Goblins, Quadavs, and similar enemies to level up until 11. It's a chugging way to go but once you hit 12, you'll get the Brass Hammer for level 12 which is a big improvement.

I am playing a hume white mage. I started in Bastok and got a travelers hat in stead of a circlet. Also a bloodstone pendant for your waist helps, and of course you want to start in the race homeland for the better item. This gave me about 10more hp than other whitemages the same level as me. Then to work out weapon skills and that sort of thing I started using a wand and a shield. The wand isn't as much damage as a hammer, but it is a little faster and gives more mind/int so my heals cost less. Around level 7 I moved to Windhurst. I had accumulated around 40K gil to work with on spells and better equipment. I recommend staying in your starting city till around 10 then moving to Windhurst because the quest rewards are better for whitemage. I travelled to San D'oria to invest in the royal armor, which is probably the best for lowlevels. Around level 11 the levelling got very fast, about a level every 1 and a half hours with a full group+ in the Tahrongi Canyon. Just stick with it, and work through it. White mage is really rewarding because everyone wants to be friends with a white mage. And I love that I can solo or party and be fine.
