I'm haveing the same problem. Does it just disapear with no message or anything?

I think the longest I've been able to play is 10 minutes, but there has been times when i've loged in made a few steps and it crashed. I just tried takeing out some ram that might have been bad. I'll see if that helps.

r u 2 playing on a thoroughbred core athlon based pc's? if so, it could be your cpu that's causing the crash. it's not because it isn't powerful enough, but is because of the too much heat that thoroughbred core athlon accumulates. it's from my real experience w/ jp version.

if it were the problem w/ cpu indeed, u could do one of the following things;

1) switch to p4
2) upgrade your cpu to barton core athlon
3) get better cooling for cpu

i chose option 2, upgraded to barton core athlon 2500+, and now it runs without a single problem.

remember, athlon is NOT officially supported by ffxi, so playing it on an athlon-based pc is at your own risk.

if it isn't of cpu nor the ram kansas is trying to see, u might gonna need to call up the support.

hope it helps.

that thread might help if you're using a controller to play ffxi

Well the old ram didn't fix the problem. It seems to go longer now but that might not be because I removed the ram but more because my case is open and getting me air flow.

I do have a thoroughbred core but the thing that bothers me is that the cpu isn't running that hot. When it quits my cpu is only at 45 C. It normally idle at 42 C. I hope it's not the CPU since I just upgraded to the 2400+ specificly for this game. I guess I can always try putting my 1800+ in and seeing if that works better.

Thanks for the info. I hope something works.

yeah, try the cooling thing bro. Not long ago, I had only one fan, now I have 4. The crashing problem is very popular, and it doesn't seem to go away by itself. If cooling doesnt work, then go with the new processor, but if money isn't a problem, don't waste time, and go with the new hardware. I actually had to wait 3 weeks before i could play. Not that i was having trouble on what to do, I jus didn't know jak bout computers, so reading the manual took that long =P.

In case you have a Mainboard with VIA-Chipset KT333 or KT400 or KT600:

Enter your BIOS and try slower RAM-Timings. You will find these Options in the Advanced Chipset-Settings. Change the Ram-Settings from SPT to Manual and enter 266 Mhz, Latencys as high numbers as possible.
Boot XP and see if it runs. If it does you may try to choose lower b(faster) RAM-Timings.

Problems at my PCs occur with the crappy VIA-Chipsets, the reason, why I changed to NForce2, wich is stable as hell.

Well the FFXI benchmark for me crashes if my CPU doesn't get enough voltage when overclocked. The weird part is EVERY single other game runs perfectly fine. I guess FFXI is VERY sensitive. I upped the voltage and now it's stable but I'm hoping the game won't do this. If it does, bye bye performance :(.

kansas;

just to get u more info, my old 2000+ was at around 48~50 C when it crashed. on the other hand, my 2500+ barton is also around the same range when played for a while, but this one doesn't crash.

it seems it's rather the "toughness" of cpu that matters, at least in my case.

btw, i'm overclocking my 2500+ to 2800+, but it works without a problem. not to mention the barton 2500+ is well known for its great ability to overclock. it runs fine even at 3200+, but i'm just being on the safe side...

Thanks for the help guys but it actually ended up being my USB to PSX converter form Radio shack that was crashing the game. Has anyone that's had this problem figured out how to fix it?

P.S. Through my cpu debuging I found a way to cool my CPU down to 26 C from 46 C before, and all it took was a fan in the window and placing my case in front of the fan. After it kept crashing while at 26 C I knew it wasn't the cpu.

Turn off the rumble feature in the config

Badrock, what about people with the older AMD761 chipset with a Palmino CPU 2100+ (like me)?

Go to CMOS, System performance settings.. give ur Ram timings an aggressive stance (Dont overclock CPU). Might not work for some and will work for others. Worked for me. I use 512mb DDR333 and I dont know why I needed to do that but It worked so im not complaining.

Each persons BIOS is different so search around, trial and error if you slightly know what you are doing.. Dont attempt anything If you are clueless.

I've had the same problem as well. I'll try turning off the rumbler, as suggested. I had figured that it was the internet connection, but I thought it odd that eventhough I was sitting next to my wireless router, it would still shut down. I have a p4 2.2ghz processer with 512mb of ram so it doesn't seem like the problem is a result of the computer not being able to handle it. And I know it is not the temperature because I'll just turn on my computer load on to FFXI and immediately get kicked off.
