View Full Version : WHM/BLM - What BLM spells are useful for a WHM?

I'm just curious about attacking magic, if you are a WHM/BLM how does the black magic of your sub compare to your main's Holy spells?
Is it less damaging, but more efficient MP wise?
Are there so few chances to use your holy magic apart from soloing that you need to use it as much as possible to get it's level up?
Do WHM/BLM's get to throw in a cheap fire 1 spell (albeit a very weak one) if they have mp to spare, or does this rarely occur?
If the attacking magic is not very useful, then what other BLM spells are often used by WHM's? - Such as fire spike, tractor, warp etc.
Thanks

In theory you could Magic Burst with your black magic spells as WHM/BLM, but the reality is that your Elemental skill is so weak with a sub that all of your elemental attack spells deal minimal damage even on Magic Bursts against monsters that are weak to the element you are using.
The main reasons people sub BLM as WHM are:
(1) lots of MP
(2) Clear Mind
(3) MP Conserve
(4) Warp (and eventually, Escape)
(5) Sleep
You also get access to a couple of nice enfeebling spells, such as Blind and Bio. Other than that, however, the offensive spell repertoire of the BLM is wasted as a sub, as none of the spells end up dealing much damage.

There must be an advantage to be a white mage as a main  I CAN'T believe there's no benifit to be a WHM as a main!? Oh well, help me I'm so confused

It is really not recommend to use BLM magic burst for WHM as it only deal minimal damage. But there are some very useful magic of BLM for WHM as described by Icemage.
WHM and BLM are always complement with each others in group.

It's funny that you responded with that after Icemage's post because the spells and abilities that he mentioned are VERY valuable especially warp and eventually escape...though you may not realize it until you actually have those spells handy.
Honestly, the best sub for a WHM is BLM because it will become very useful when you solo as a WHM and the MP boost is not offered from any other sub than that (not counting SMN...but that will be at lv 30).

Another nice spell the Black Mage possesses is Tractor (Generally a summon corpse spell). You're a one-man clean-up squad with that :) If the group pulled a little too much, just cast the Teleport that's closest to your current location if allies are alive, or Warp if allies won't make it (I hope you bound close to where you were hunting). Then just zone back in and cast Tractor on each of your groupmates, then Raise them. A little hard on the MP, but it makes a hard corpse retrieval a whole lot easier.
