I Was a Big fan of Everquest. For anyone Out there who has played both EQ and FFXI. I have a few questions for you.

1. Is FFXI bigger?

2. Does FFXI have zones?(loading times inbetween locations)

3. Does FFXI have LONG patch downloads frequently?

4. Are the Character Stats More complicated in FFXI and Can you manipulate them More in FFXI?

5. Is leveling Faster in FFXI?

6. What is The downtime like? (After you run out of Mana, are there a lot of LONG waits to restore yourself?

7. Do you ever have to loot your corpse for your stuff?

8. Is it easy to run away from Creatures when you are going to die.

9. How does logging out work?

10. Do Items effect your Stats a LOT?

11. Are Quests easier to figure out in FFXI?

12. if you are a spellcaster, how often do you get new spells?

13. In general how do you think FFXI compares to Everquest? Any Big Perks aside from it LOOKING AWESOME?

err i poked myself in the eye with a lobster fork for two months once, and it was no fun either. so lobster fork, and everquest, are out of the question. nothing left to do but play ffxi!

A few answers:

2.Yes but loading times are around 5 to 10 secs
6.The downtime isn't bad at all...chances are if a mage has to regain mana your fighters have to rest too
7.nope you keep your eq
8.depends
11. from what i've seen they are
12.spells are bought or found on monsters
13. I think FFXI is a little bit better than EQ because of the fact that it's almost as if you're starring in a game rather than being apart of it.

hmm...

1. EQ probably is bigger... with numerous expansions I guess there's over 100 zones in EQ already. But worlds in EQ are a waiste of space most of the time...... no one really travel to all those zones. unlike FFXI every zones are useable and well planned. There's no "unfinished" zones. You played EQ before right? You should get my idea then. zones in EQ are 80% waiste of space.

2. yes

3. Once in a while. There's patch at least once a month as I remember. Some are tiny some are huge.
Square always announce the size of their patch. Like the patch that's going to apply to the game on the 21st of this month. It's 58 Mb total and Square devide the patch into 3 parts so we don't have to load them all at once.

4. Are the Character Stats More complicated in FFXI and Can you manipulate them More in FFXI?
- stats are pretty simple in FFXI. easy to understand. They will go up automatically when you level up.

5. Is leveling Faster in FFXI?
- I don't know how long you need in EQ. Levelling in FFXI is hard... level 65+ you need 35,000 EXP to level up. imagine killing enemies for 150-180 each, 5-6 minutes per kill and down times. average 2,500 exp per hour.... That's like 20 hours a level. And there's other stuff that will keep you away from levelling too. quests, missions, boss battle, item fetching, money collecting. etc etc

Anyway, from level 1 to 2 you only need 500 EXP. You can level up in 10 minutes.

6. What is The downtime like?
- Higher level means more MP. And if the group doesn't have any MP generator, the down time can be really long. Might go up to 10 minutes for mage's MP and tank's HP to all fully recover.
BRD and RDM are the MP generators. They will cut the down time a lot.

7. Do you ever have to loot your corpse for your stuff?
- No. There's no corpse

8. Is it easy to run away from Creatures
- Sometimes... Some creatures run slower than you, some other run faster. If you're chased by monsters with faster running speed, you're most likely to die :P

9. How does logging out work?
- It works like logging out.
... ummm well, you log out, and you dissappear. Not sure what you want to know here.

10. Do Items effect your Stats a LOT?
- In some stats.... Higher level items can give greater stat boosts. I think +7 is the highest boost from single item. But those are not ordinary player made items. They are drops from NMs.

The more common accessories will add around +2 +3. Some more rare and harder to make accessories can give +4 +5

11. Are Quests easier to figure out in FFXI?
- Im playing the JP version so... it's damn hard here. I'm sure they will be really intuitive in the USA version.

12. if you are a spellcaster, how often do you get new spells?
- every 2-3 levels you get new spells. 1 3 5 6 7 10 11... something like that

13. In general how do you think FFXI compares to Everquest?
- I played EQ for 4 months. The more I played, the more I hate the game. I lost interest, I felt sick to log in, I felt tired to play the game.....
- I have been playing FFXI for almost a year now. The more I play the more interesting the game become. There's more stuff I want to do, more goals I want to archive. First thing I feel when I wake up in the morning is to log into this game. It always feel fresh and new to me and I can keep playing it all day long.

Do I have to explain more? :P
EQ feels like a job after a while.
FFXI is really the first MMORPG that feels like a game.

1/no. I'll be nice saying it's as big as the original EQ. I only have the japanese version of FFXI, not the add-on, but I think the add-on is as big as Kurnak.
3/ Less often than EQ.
4/No.
5/Depends. I would say it's as fast as original EQ...now since Luclin and PoP, leveling in EQ has become pretty fast, so it's now slower to level in FFXI than EQ.
6/I agree downtime are fine, sometimes a bit long depending on the group but it's part of the game.
8/More or less like EQ, whithout a SOW of course ^^.
10/not a LOT, but it does.
11/yes.
12/you almost have a new spell at each level, but only one, there are no steps like in EQ where you 8 spells at one perticular level.
13/it's a totally different game, I think EQ is more fun though, because there are more things to do in EQ. EQ is harder too, which is a good thing for me, the aggro in FFXI is less complicated than in EQ, things like that. There are not a lot of raids too...if you like raids, stay on EQ, and go through POT

1. Is FFXI bigger?

Not as of yet. You can't compare the size of EQ and FFXI because of the many expansions EQ has comepared to FFXI's one. If your talking about that worthless EQ PS2 game then use FFXI is quite bigger.

2. Does FFXI have zones?(loading times inbetween locations)

Yes, loading times are around 5 seconds or less.. depends on how fast your pc is and how fast the information can be sent from server to your PC ( your connection )

3. Does FFXI have LONG patch downloads frequently?

Every once in awhile SE will require you to download a hefty sized patch. Usually after a huge maintenance update. They usually inform you days or weeks in advance letting you get ready for them. Your usually told right after you log on FFXI and right before you start the game.

4. Are the Character Stats More complicated in FFXI and Can you manipulate them More in FFXI?

To an extent. Basically stats are set depending on Race and Job/support jobs you have chosen. But by equipment you can change your stats.

5. Is leveling Faster in FFXI?

Out of ALL the MMORPG's ive played this game has been by far the easiest to lvl on. Im not saying that its like D2 or something, it will still take you A LONG time to reach lvl cap. Two months at the most unless your some lvl freak.

6. What is The downtime like? (After you run out of Mana, are there a lot of LONG waits to restore yourself?

Yes, if your soloing the downtime is unbarable. But when PT's its usually not that long. And at high lvls depending on the party you have can be non existant. (RDM + BRD is the bomb)

7. Do you ever have to loot your corpse for your stuff?

Ahhh, I always hated this in EQ and in DAOC even though it wasn't as bad still suck having to go back to your corpes to get either exp back or your equipment. This is non existant in FFXI, only thing you loose when dying is experience.. NOTHING Else.

8. Is it easy to run away from Creatures when you are going to die.

If you don't have nice chuck of Hit points left before taking off most likely you'll probably still die. Some creatures give off chance after a short run after you but monsters such as goblins/orcs and arcane type enemies for some reason like to stay on you until you are either dead or zoned.

9. How does logging out work?

Theres an option in the main menu.. usually character will rest for 30 seconds before logging. Or if you do it in your mog house you will instantly log out instead of waiting 30 seconds. During that 30 seconds you are not immune to attacks by the enemy so you'll have to make sure your safe before attempting it. Canceling log is also accepted so you can choose not to log if the countdown is still goign.

10. Do Items effect your Stats a LOT?

Most high lvl armors do have stat effects. And depending on how much of a certain stant +'s you have can effect you quite abit. More Str= more dmg. etc.

11. Are Quests easier to figure out in FFXI?

As an importer some quests have been hell. Most quite easily if I know where to go. Im quite sure that will be different on US retail.

12. if you are a spellcaster, how often do you get new spells?

It varies, sometimes you'll get 2 new spells at one lvl and other times you have to lvl a few times to get a new spell. You usually get a new spell every level (status effect, healing or attacking) but the higher you get the more length there is to lvl before getting a new one.

13. In general how do you think FFXI compares to Everquest? Any Big Perks aside from it LOOKING AWESOME?

Besides the fact that this is the only MMORPG that focus's strictly on teamwork. I think its better than EQ, but really...if you ask that type of question on a FFXI forum of course the answer will be FFXI:thumbsup:
