question: ranger useless against boss/tough foe

question to any high level ranger out there: i always want to be a ranger. and i heard that they are useless against boss and tough foe.-i think ranger hit rate is extremly low against them. i need high level ranger out there to verify this. and if it's true , have anyone figure out a way to solve this problem. my next question is that if they are usless agaist boss/tough foe, why would anyone want to be a ranger and pt with one.

please help me out with this . thanks

According to informed sources (Jei, I believe), Rangers can't hit the very toughest of foes. Those are maybe 10 monsters in the game. These are the same foes that most melee classes can't do a lot of damage too: mostly mages magic bursting kills them. Rangers kick ass on the other 99% of enemies.

That being said, I would think it's extremely possible that a Ranger built completly around Agi would be somewhat useful. This would likely entail a Mithra RNG/MNK with the best AGI equipment using Sharp Eye/Concentrate and being able to hit for the one minute out of every 5 when both abilities overlap. They could probably outdamage the other melee during that period as well.

Of course, even though I think this all I have is reams of second hand information, which amounts to a hill of beans. Any level 60-70 rangers with a similar setup?

What Jei is talking about is the HNMs. Rangers are quite frankly, kind of useless in those fights. There is really no way around it.

Boss battles, like those in your country missions, BCNMs, Crystal Warrior fights, RNG is still a really good option.

Why is that? I'd imagine it's something to do with HNM's being so hard for the current levels so already bad accuracy gets worse, but i'm not sure.

Also, 'grats on 70. I would love to play Ranger, I simply don't think I can afford it ^^;

Yes HNM fight. Tougher HNM fignt. Fafnir, Orc god, King Behemoth are probably only 3 that rangers are totally useless. Some weaker ones.. I'm not sure but my LS leader never want rangers to join the battle so we just have to use other jobs

Assuming the RNG can hit consistently, the only thing that gets hate off a RNG is killing the monster real fast. That doesn't happen for HNM.

first off whats HNM? secondly, what do you mean "completely" useless, maybe they cant hit with bow, , but wouldnt they be able to use there knife or melee weapon?

RNG is terrible at melee, why would you have a terrible melee'er who's doing pitiful damage, when you could have a useful member in their place?

will rangers ever be a useful member in an HNM fight?

i.e. is this just a temporary problem due to the level cap, or some other circumstance that will be overcome/fixed/patched etc.

im all about the challenge, so i would be pretty pissed to max out my character only to find out that i cant even participate in some of the most difficult battles

btw, are thiefs succesful as an attacker in an hnm battle?
