what kind of instruments are there? and also, do instruments alter what you can do, and are there like magic instruments etc?

There are 2 types - wind instruments (flutes) and harps. You can also use your voice. Different instruments up the effects of certain types of songs, like a certain flute may add +1 to your Minuet, or a harp adds a +1 to a Serenidy. I've also heard that in general, wind instruments / flutes are good for attack based songs (ie - either Requiem Songs that inflict damage like poison, or Minuet songs that raise strength) and harps are good for defense based ones (like Piian, Minne, etc). If you sub bard, you can not use instruments though, just voice. Hope that's it. :)

I think people are just fine with having just those 2 types + voice... each instrument type has its own skill guage, and leveling them up takes a lot of singing / playing...

Maybe so, but once they would be done with those instruments (which I agree would take a while), they might get bored with it. I'm just saying my opinion on this but maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to make more instruments like a lute or a little drum or even a triangle...anyways I'm sure you get my meaning

Hehe.... I'm a little bored of the "flute" music, so I tend to switch instruments in the middle of the song to "mute" it ;)

Yeah, I get ya. I wouldn't mind more instruments myself, but I'm fine with what there is currently. Although I would like to see a lute or something (especially considering they're sitting in the Bastok music store, yet aren't sold). :) ::imagines a galka with a triangle:: Hehee.
