Reading the forum it's quite well stated that warrior make a superior subjob for ranger than do thief. however it is also well stated that the cost of being a ranger is quite a bit more than other classes, save ninja with thier optional ninjitsu.

The question i submit to you ( those currently playing a ranger, not message board trolls / know it alls waiting for NA release ;) )

- If one were to level a warrior to 30, then complete the ranger quest, then play ranger until level 70, would they (with a warrior subjob) be able to keep up with equipment and support the cost of arrows and bullets?

- would it be more benificial to play a thief to 30, become a ranger and use thier abilities to gain more money / steal things to sell? (also if said thief was leveled to 35 one could gil steal when they were hurting for cash). this way one would have enough funds to support a ranger financially better than a warrior ever could.

I suppose the base question is could a ranger/warrior make enough money to support the cost of equipment upgrades, ammo and whatever else or would it be better to play a thief.
( Play them all! tee hee hee this is FF11 you can be any and everything!!! ... not the answer I'm looking for. by the way  )

I'm level 40 ranger right now. every party I got in, I spent at least 20K. and it's about 1 party per level from 30-40.

every party i preper 6-7 stacks of arrows (1200 per stack) and 2 stacks of gun bullets (8,000-9,000 per stack) thoese are low level arrows/bullets... I can't afford high level arrows which would cost 3000/stack ><.

^^; and the nice bows at level 50+ are like over million gils

.......... wow... and you have a 70 red mage to farm cash with...

This is my only turn off toward rangers. The cost. Any other rangers out there with input?

It's starting to look like only people with high level thief can make a ranger successfully, being able to afford equipment and ammo. Any 50+ rangers can shed some light on this situation?

Really, cost is the only turn off from the ranger class.

You could always raise both WAR and THF to level 30 before you switch to RNG, so both are there for your convience. Having a subjob at the beginning certainlly doesn't hurt any either. That has been my personal plan for quite sometime.

Simply a suggestion.

ranger is expensive. if you want to be one you have to acept that cruel fact.

I have a lv 26 thf character who I only ever use to make money for my rng character (which it does quite successfuly) - however my rng is only at 22, so I've yet to experience _serious_ cash hurt, however already it's costing a lot. I always buy HQ bows/equip, and arrows aren't cheap.

Having said that, the damage I can do is insane, and well worth it.

I'd reccomend you use thf/war to get to lv30. You'll probably get to 30 quicker with a thf, and with war as your sub, that'll be lv15, so that will do your rng until it hits 30 aswell.

Actually till level 15 the arrows are 4 gil a peice..which is cheap! lol then it goes up alittle for level 14 bow arrows, I think are 500-600 a stack. Then you have crossbows to ..those per stack are cheap to, I just bought some around 350. But dont forget you can always make arrows in the guilds.

Actually the thing about ranger is that you can choose your performace and there therefore choose your money spending. If you buy top of the line arrows and bullets, you will not be able to support it by any gil farming. You need to craft.

Actually for that matter if you just by average bullets/arrows, I would still recomend craftin of you will spend a ton a time just trying to raise gil.

So dunno. Ranger is tons of fun, great damage (hmmm 2hr) just the cost is what kills. A ranger with out money is basicly the weakest class in the game. A ranger with money will do the most damage out of all the jobs.

So it comes down to this. If you are willing to spend time crafting and gil hunting, just to go blow it on a patch of arrows. Then ranger is for you. Otherwise I would look else where. You most certainly will be rare if you do choose the path, especially at high levels.

I really don't see why people buy their arrows. It's much less stressful to not have to worry about money and just craft your own arrows. I don't know about you, but I put the Scavenge ability to good use, found a weaver friend (who loved me 'cause making fletchings raised his skill so much) and took a few minutes to craft a thousand arrows and went out and partied for several hours. I spent exactly 1,600 gil on arrows - just two stacks of iron arrows.

i'm assuming you mean the lv1 arrows...
did you take into account the money you spent on the items for synthing? and if you collected all the items yourself (especially all those air crystals) then chances are you the time you spent doing that you could spend earning more money farming gil...
after lv14 you should be using iron arrows, synthing iron (or later, silver) arrows, takes a very high level in guilding so it's not really viable after that, unless you're at the level where you can make 'em...

Yeah, I got everything myself. I had a weaver friend that made my fletchings and loved me for it because it raised his skill so much. I found that not many people crafted so I asked a couple times about crystals and had to stop asking because my box was getting filled up with crystals. Also, people whom I'd partied with or raised in the past who knew I crafted would randomly send me crystals. I was running out of space, quite honestly.

Just to share what I have done......

I am a level 31 Ran/Nin now.......From level 1 - 29, I did solo... using Ran/War...killing worms....starting from level 8.

From level 8 - about 20.......I used about 3 stacks of arrows for each levels(each stack costs about 400)

And I used all +Agi stuffs....only thing expensive is I eat Onions drop by Goblins which cost me 3500G per dozen.

I got my own Bow from the NM...Juu....and the stinging Dagger from stinging sophie.....when working on dagger....i also collect 3D of onions^^

From level 1 - 31 I have spent about 60000G.........I have not start level from 31.......now working hard earning money again

I think it is easier to level solo and save a lot of money from level 1- 29 because it is hard to hit a totetote monster....even with 2 knife which give +1 Agi +10 to shooting...

I usually get about 140 - 200 exp per kill for worms.... and it only miss like 2 - 4 times a worm....

When fighting totetote.....i can miss all in the whole fight until i can use the ability once again^^;

And level 8 - 17 u can make your own arrows easily....one stack which only cost less than 100G.....

I only start using metal arrow starting from level 18 fighting in koroloka worms.....and i never use gun....i use crossbow....since crossbow is cheaper..and it still kills anyway...

This my experience for level 1 - 31.......the rest.....I dare not think...now working very hard on money to buy Valkurm Emperor Headdress

I think, besides it being a better idea financially, it's more fun to get some linkshell buds together to fight the NMs yourself to get special things like that. It's more rewarding for me, and it involves everybody. It's more social.
