View Full Version : Boring?!

I heard from many reason sites that the beta testers (atleast what they said) have been complaining that this game is one of the boringest rpg's they have ever played! This worried me of course, expecially since I been planning for this for the past 2 years or so! I also heard the quests are all the same, and all the scenery looks all alike....tell me this is not so!!

Please anyone

Can you list the sites? im guessing the ppl posting this infoeither dont have the game, EQ players, producing their own game, or arent accustomed to not haveing a super cheat or are ONLY leveling. without a imagination you are doomed...thats all i can speculate at this time. theres many personal reasons and opinions likewise.

or you were reading the EQ/SWG rant thread.

yes i agree fyrewyre, to play this game you need alot of imatination being that without one the real fun of the game i would say is reduced to 50 %. and those cheating bastards over at everquest, they dont know what the hell they are talking about, this game is fun even when you just go around beating the crap out of monsters.

so dont freat

I hav a lot of great time in game.... and a lot of boring time too. Let's see...

The most fun time I have in game is when there's bunch of cool and nice players online that I can get along and do fun stuff together. FF XI is an online game and I kinda expect that: you won't have much fun alone. In fact, you can't. You need friends.

The most boring part for me is....... I'm playing the Japanese version and most japanese arrange hunting time around 6PM to mid night..... which will be around 3AM my time - -; and I don't have much chance to join them so often.
when I get in game around 6PM my time it's like so early morning in japan that's there's nothing much going on to join.

all games have some boring parts, but for me, Ive found the game way more fun and engaging than boring.

I don't think you should worry if it's boring. I have never gotten bored of any Square games. I just get so tired my hands cramp up so I stop.
If you have a good imagination this game will be great. Luckly I have a huge imagination. Clan creator is for me.

Whoever told you that it's stupid is probably ranting. If they rant, they aren't telling the truth. Everquest hates FFXI, therefore Everquest is going to flame it before it comes out.

People who say it's stupid want immediate satisfaction. They want to go against Shadow Lord right when they start playing. You get the idea.

This game is great if you love Final Fantasy.

This will be my first MMORPG, so I'm pretty happy about that.
I never got into the others, because they looked glitchy and bad.
At least FFXI has some artistic beauty to it. :handsdown

Get FFXI, you won't be disappointed.

Signing off.

I am sure that this game will be better than a lot of games. I mean, have you seen the movies people make?

There are frickin' battles on the boat, when going to someplace! Another ship comes up and some mages or something start sending monsters over... if that isn't exciting, I don't know what is!

That and the actual storyline in the game. The kick ass graphics, the great armor and weapons and stuff. Great Jobs... holy crap, I wanna play!!

Tarutaru = best race in a game EVER!!

Though, I suppose i'll have to wait and see if i'm right...

If you power-leveling, not doing any quests and not doing any missions – then yes I can see how this game could conceivable be boring.

These people exist – I saw three rank 1s and ten rank 2s in Crawlers Nest.

Rank 1 at level 40? Now that’s just lazy.

Oh I'm so happy I heard these answers to my question! I have a WONDERFUL imagination! Um, thanks again for the wonderful replies, and because of research like this, I pre-ordered the game from EB games! I can't wait till I get it (Oct. 28) and I hope to see you all!

-Taru Taru ish awesome!!! hehe

Probably the people saying that are the solo people. If you play alone it can be very boreing. Most monsters were designed around partying and to solo you need to hunt monster lower level then you with the xp and loot sucking.

Hmm, it's not that hard to believe. If you don't speak a word of JP (and a lot of players don't) a quest can be more infuriating than enjoyable. Even worse, if you need to group up.. heh.

I'm avoiding all quests until English.

In response to the topic, an MMORPG is what you make of it. You get a lot of people who need extreme guidance and telling what to do, otherwise they think the point of the game is go on and just kill monsters, since MMORPGS have no real guidance, you are your own person completely.

To me, FFXI is one of the greatest MMORPGS i've played. I've played over 15 of them, so I have quite a lot of experience.

Once it's released onto the western markets, everyone is going to pick up on it a whole lot more, and it will soon rank up to be one of the best. Honestly, I never knew really anything about the game apart from screenshots until I got JP version, so think about other people.

PS: Everquest players hate it because they fear it. It will take their players.

EQ players believe faulse rumors about FFXI and look down on the game a lot. I've heard comments from them like "FFXI is turn base so it sucks" well you got the idea ^^;

just depends on the player...

there are people who think SWG is fun, and love it.

for me, it's boring as hell. Was bored when I first got it, and still bored after mastering 2 characters in multiple professions.

camping and getting loot are my hobbies when I am bored or need a break from doing other stuff, and in SWG its doesnt exist. Some people like that fact, others don't.

So you can't listen to other people... you need to find out for yourself.

lol yeah i wanna face the shadow lord as soon as possible too, but thats just like saying i want to beat all the FF games in one day. It wont happen. But At least the ffxi bosses take longer to beat than the crappy EQOA ones who were pretty much the exact same as an original dude. So I am not gonna rush, but It is my goal lol.

And as for GRAFFiX, I agree with everything u said. some people hate MMORPG, but some enjoy it, like not everyone in the world likes Final fantasy in general. There will always be other opinions. Try it out for yourself and if you dont like it, then stop paying monthly, but if u do, then cool!

Every MMORPG can be extremely boring. Let's face it, there is a level grind that always happens - you need to kill hundreds (if not thousands) of mobs to level up and you may tire of that. Most MMORPG veterans will call it as they see it, and for some FFXI will not have the same appeal as other MMORPGs might have.

They do have a point which is that inherently FFXI doesn't really have anything that is totally unique or "out there" compared to the rest of the MMORPG industry in terms of gameplay. Only some of the mechanics, like the class changing and main/sub/adv jobs, are really new - and that may not be enough to get people to play.

What I forsee is that a lot of FF console RPG players are going to come in and are going to get ridiculously bored because they just don't understand the MMO concept. You will not have the story-based and short 50-60hr playtimes and independent control of the console RPGs.

As long as FFXI has a good story I'll be hooked. Without a story it's pretty pointless. Once I played an open beta mmorpg and the story was not implemented until it went retail. Anyway at first I was happy just to play it but eventually came to the conclusion that it's just a waste of time, that was when I reached lvl25 :). Fighting here, fighting there, fighting here and there, it get's borring after a while if you continue this repetetive action over and over again. If there is a story, hopefully a good one, and you know you are working towards a goal than that will hold my interrest. Considering this is a Final Fantasy game, which the series is well known to have some of the best stories, I think it's going to be very interresting. Although I was thinking how one could have a story in a MMORPG in the first place, not sure how that works out which all these players playing at the same time.

have you noticed that like 80% of all members on the forum dont have the game (including myself). Either this forum will be more desserted when people play ffxi and not like it, or it will be sick with questions about quests with all of us playing the game. EQ had horrible story, didnt even have one. FFXI has a nice one, and its cool!

FFXI=a great experience if u play it with people u like and can have fun with....when i was doing the chocobo quest.. i got lost quite a few times (my friend showed me the corral and logged) and i had no map and it was boring as hell waiting for like 6 hours..so i had fun and joked around with others w/o map playing hide and go seek ;) ;) (kinda childish i know but it spent the time)

also the story line started taking me in after mission 6...and i couldnt go past mission 9...because no groups would have me..i had a 3 person group we made it to the top..we waited for a clear spot at the 2nd NM and the first one popped right ontop of us and a lightning elemental was about 25 feet away..so we couldnt heal (not much of a fight with 2 rdm's and a war) me and the other rdm in that group had a group but they kicked us out because the damn mage leading it wouldnt lead a full allience thru the towers...

ive seen alotta places..and the enviroments are awsome..water effects, fog, terrain levels, weather effects....this is a really fun mmorpg..but it is only fun if playing with people u know and like and speak same language as u..thats why i feel bad for the importers on non ragnarok servers like jei who have limited japanese vocabulary...hope ya can worldshift into a "english" server jei...

P.s. my grammer sux on pc (force of habit) so u can kiss my ass if you gonna say sumthin about it

Well the thing with EQOA, is i knew no one who liked it, plus u would barely see people. When u had a group, it was fun though. FFXI i know so many people that are getting it. And i know i will be the first to get it out of them so i am going to earn up for a WP

i played eq for ps2 it was ok for a while
i have a disorder called EDS which is a connective tissue dissorder
right now my knee is effected and gives me constant pain has for a year i do nothing after 2 months of playing the game i gave up on it lol 12-16 hours a day on a game because theres nothing else u can do gets VERY sad and boring

k ALL MMORPGS are boring if you just level up and play to make it fun you must talk with other players and what ive seen of ffxi that since it has an actualy plot if u just play u get fun :P so the people who say ffxi is boring must have no social life (in game)

CalGore
10-14-2003, 12:36 PM
thats why i never play eqoa anymore. All the time i would be with other classes and we had to do their quest...not mine!, but with the storyline, me and my party get to do it together. And eq is basically kill guys, not reason why though.

I don't you have to worry about FFXI. What's happening right now is a scare tactic, people unwilling to admit the game is better then other MMORPGs they have played. Reason is probably cause then they'd fell like they wasted their on a game that is no were near as good as the one they are putting down.

So to make themselves more like they didn't waste their time or money they put down what is better, try to make it look less appealing then it really is. Most of the time you really can't listen to people's critisism, the best method is experience it yourself then you'll know if you like it or not.

I can give a perfect example, Lineage 2. I thought it was going to be terrible and heard people putting it down too (I doubted it myself), but I gave it chance cause I don't ever accept anything without understand the experience. So I had played the Korean Beta till they went Pay to Play, I had a blast in there.

Comparing many things you can do in Lineage 2 are in FFXI in a far more developed stage and there is tons more you can do in FFXI that Lineage 2 just doesn't have. The one thing I do see though that Lineage 2 did seem to beat FFXI in is it's "Eye Candy".

There are many, many beautiful sceaneries since the update they did before they went Pay to Play. FFXI though has them beat in just about everything else, even in the animations.

shit... from all the cow slaying in diablo 2 ide say im fairly resiliant to boredom in a mmorpg.
here are my main beefs with FFXI Online...
1.the price: dear god! I worked and saved up a considerable amount of money and figured paying to play wasnt so bad an idea. The graphics seem just a little much though... for top of the line ide need to spend $300-400 just on a video card. seems the computing power needed for enjoyable play very well may discourage many players.
2.details. I enjoy details! the little things are what count. for instance, baldurs gate 2 was shitty graphics wise but the details were amazing! large maps with repeating patterns and what not get extremely boring and are hard to adjust to. grittiness is another thing i love in games.
besides these, this game is gonna be quite enjoyable. time for sushi!

I dunno, I don't think anything from Diablo2 can stack up to the level grind in MMORPGs. In its defense, FFXI tends to have a lesser grind than most other MMORPGs... then again you also need to sub to have an effective character.

I am apparently crazy. I played EQ for 3 years (with breaks) and played SWG for 3 months. EQ has the classic level treadmill and SWG was geared towards the casual player with no time to do the treadmill. I've realized something from the amount of time I've played both games: I like the level treadmill. That's correct, I'm crazy.

don't have to buy top of the line

I have a $65 Radeon 8500 LE 128mb card that is the equivlant of a Geforce 3 (non-MX of course) or something similar

rated 4400-L 3200-H on the benchmark Which is more then enough to play and you can't ask for much better from a card that costs less then 1/5th the price of the top of the line cards.

It won't be a good card by this time next year with tomorrows technology, like the top of the line cards out now, but for any game out now its more then decent.

Just make sure if you get a Geforce card DO NOT get one with MX in the name.... MX = crap version, using cheaper parts and slower speeds.... like a Geforce 3 non-MX is faster then a Geforce 4 MX in most environments. MX is the 'Celeron' of the video card world

anyhow, sorry to get off topic heheh

MMORPGs can't be judged at all by theory.

Face it, it's about lvling, killing the strongest mobs, get the best items ect pp.
That's what a MMORPG is, or was...we'll see what FFXI adds to that.

My point is, in theory it sounds so simple an boring, but well...

I played Ragnarök Online which is pure H&S combined with being elite, but u know what ?
It's pretty addictive, played it 10h/Day for like 2-3 months.

Tell me about the theory of boredom when u face that beautiful scenerey FFXI offers you or when u face my TaruTaru raising his cute little pawn and letting out hell ;)

Actually graffix, ill explain what the GF4 mx really is. In a nutshell the GF4 line consists of two different ones, MX and Ti. MX bassically is just a GF2 with super pumped up memory and core clock speeds, and doesnt have the goodies a GF 3 has that works with newer Direct X versions. A GF4 Ti is a GF 3 with super pumped up memory and core clock speeds.

So the MX is a good card, but not for graphically challenging/new games like FFXI, although it could be used for it.

Pierrot, im also an RO addict, for 3 or so years now. After all the crap thats happened (and the repetiveness of the game itself) i decided to quit, and go to FFXI, heres hoping :)

Now to you EQ bashers. Had not EQ been the success that its, games like SWG, WOW,AO, DAOC, and FFXI likely wouldn't have been made. That being said,as a former EQ player I'm very much looking forward to 10-28-03. I 'm hoping that Final Fantasy XI is as big a blast to play as EQ was.
