3Kingdom/nation question(galka coments wanted too)

as youv prolly guessed, i havent played the game yet but looking forward to it, and as such, the question of which kingdom i should join came to mind.

my question is basicly this, how does the kingdom thing work for FFXI? is it a factions sort of thing? and does which kingdom i pick affect anything serious in the later game(for what will probably be a war/something galka :confused: (if this is a bad idea, feel free to coment on that as well:sweat: )) thanks for any info you might have

PS. are the Galka really as topheavy as the screenshots seem to look?

The biggest difference between the three nations is the missions you have to do in order to increase your rank. Every once in a while you have missions that all nations can do together, but you have some missions (especially the starting ones) where only you and other people from your nation can do. lt's not so much of a faction, although some people have an unecessary amount of nationalism and when these people band together to argue with other people from different nations with the same amount of nationalism about which nation is better, um, wow.

Choosing a nation comes with small perks that don't really mean anything in the end as well. If you start in a nation that your race belongs in, you get a quirky stat bonus ring that becomes useless after a while. Every nation has a different set of conquest items that can be bought for CP points. But it doesn't mean you can't get the item just because you chose the wrong nation. A person from Bastok can buy an item from San d'Oria from either the auction house when they're in stock, or buy them for double the CP when their nation is in first place. You get to set your Homepoint for free in certain areas, but only when your nation controls the region. Region ranking goes up and down in those high level areas so eventually everybody gets a turn at being able to set Homepoints for free.

And, for your last question, sort of. Certain armor makes Galkas look like they're stuffing the upper portion of their body with tissue paper.

All across the world there are different regions. Each nation has the potential of taking control of the different regions. To do this, you have to have Signet casted on you (you can do this by talking to one of the Signet guards located in embassies as well as your starting town.) While you have signet casted, you can go out and kill monsters in those different regions, and every time you kill a monster that gives you EXP you contribute conquest points for your nation. The nation that has the most conquest points accumulated controls the region, and the nation that has the most regions conquered gets ranked first overall.
