I am trying to decide what to be, I was leaning towards paladin, but it seems that all I do in groups is having to keep aggro and I really dont want to ALWAYS do that. What melee class is a strong one that does good damage, but has decent defense too?

While I haven't played the game, if you're going for a good melee class, I've heard Samurai and Monk can be pretty good.

If you're having doubts about who to play as, don't listen to other people, just start off as a warrior, and pay attention to the other classes you see while in a party. It will be much easier to decide, and you won't have any regrets that way.
