Chocobo Race RESULTS!!!

Results are in for the First Ever Chocobo Race! It's was a blast. I really enjoyed running it and Hope more people come out to the next event.

Win: Ninjiz - 20k Gil
Place: Sophitia - 10k Gil
Show: Bloodfist - 5k Gil

Honerable Mentions: Vandriel Finishin a split second after Bloodfist
Phoenix Down had the Most members present racing, Thank you all for showing the love and coming out.

The Finish Line had many people watching the racers cross as well, including some GM's.

I'd given anything to still be playing import, and be there for myself. All the months I played FFXI, I wanted something like that. I LOVE CHOCOBOS!! :) They better do it again in the future.

The reaction I'm recieving is completly amazing, FF_Spazz and I are teaming up to bring even more races to Vana'diel. Right now I'm going to aim for Every sunday night at 6 pm PST.

FF_Spazz is working on the website as I write this. We have some very dedicated people that wish to see more races and more good times. If you wish to help, feel free to look me up. The Racing website will also be posted as soon as it is available.

first of all i want to say major big props to NEKO who was the heart pumping blood to organize this event (GO PHEONIXDOWN since Neko is also a PD'er) :thumbsup: but uhh.. back to what i was going to say

it always amazes me that despite the horrible stories always going on about what goes down in the beta.. there's 10-fold good stories that are left untold.. i am glad to shine spotlight on this one..

YES, *UNOFFICIAL* Event.. CHOCOBO RACING :thumbsup: at the same time the race was going down.. the Galka Army *an ls made up of galkas only* were running rampant through the streets of Sandoria.. it got soo many people nervous/freaked out and whatnot that 2 gm's came down to witness the army . )

during this time I talked to a good GM friend of mine *same one who witnessed the birth of the first summoners when even the GM's said it couldn't be done in the beta, the first of many impossibilities made possible*

but i basically talked to them about the event.. what's happening as of that moment.. who the organizer were.. im glad that they showed up and talked to you Neko . ) you truly deserve it and if Square takes notice of you, way2go buddy!

I have realized through this event, that I enjoying running events which many people benefit from as opposed to sitting around and leveling all day. With the new birth of the VCRL, things will happen like never before, The web site is almost done, and people are already flocking in. We're planning another race for the 17th.

The last Course, from Windrust to San d'Oria we deemed, "The Vana'Diel Classic"

For our race on the 17th, I believe we're going to be running that race in reverse, San d'Oria to Windrust. Sign-Ups at the San d'Orian Chocobo Stables will begin at 5pm PST, There will be an Entry fee of only 1k gil. As much as I love this sport, If I'm going to run weekly races, I don't have the ability to dish out 35k in prize money every week. Sign-ups will end at 5:45pm PST. Racers will be given instructions prior to boarding their chocobos, and the Race will begin as closely to 6 pm PST as time will allow.

Everyone is urged to attend, and if one cannot race, please make yourself home at the East Sartabarta gate for the finish line! For more details, and easier access to race information, please visit the Official VCRL website at. http://www.geocities.com/FFXIRacing

Though I may now be on the GM-List, and Oh so desire a position as a GM so i can help people all of the time, whether that dream comes true or not. btw, I was talking to the GM's when i first brought it up and one asked.. it's not Thal it's another.. umm Ari-something.. the question was what were the prizes.. when i told them the gil amounts they were like "DAYUM!" basically.. *actually*, i tried to convince them to give some sort of reward.. even if it's just an antidote :thumbsup: they had a suggestion though.. contestants should pay gil to enter.. winner gets lot . ) hey, it's an idea.. i mean since you guys established the chocobo racing league (aka FFXInascar, lol).. maybe the members should put money in? . )

i had a couple of ideas that u should consider.

1. film start and finish of each race, maybe u could have a staff member at each checkpoint to film who runs past and stuff, so then everyone can get a visual which promotes it further.

2. Have Quest items as some rewards perhaps, im sure anyone would race for that stuff.

3. do like cross country , like a tag team race, e.g someones chocobo time is running out and they reach a checkpoint where a team member is waiting to start running for them.

4. Have a members page which lists the scores of ppl, (if u make a scoring table) and at end of each month top person on table gets reward.

Dang! I wish I had joined in on this one... It looked like one heck of a party!

It wouldn't be a bad idea to have people pay an entry fee so you don't have to front the prize all the time. I'd be willing to pay to race. Looks like it's definitely worth it just to get so many people together like that.

As far as a relay race. I got a suggestion for that... get some type of item (hopefully rare enough so there wouldn't be cheaters) and provide 1 to each team. The person racing the first leg will need to carry the item and then trade it to the next team member who will then carry the item to the next and so on and so on...

Sorry I didnt get to help out like I had originally planned but you know what happened with that (still mad :mad: )
One suggestion I have though if you didnt do this is have a pace racer someone also on chocobo following kinda beind to make sure of no cheating. Also get a whole round trip race goin wind to sand to bastok back to wind would be cool ^_^

i participated, and i think that the race was almost too long. it takes a good 40+ minutes to finish. going round the world would be wayy too long. thats pushing 2 hours.
i think a more fun race would be to have random checkpoints. if all the racers were in an alliance, and checkpoint members were as well. then at the start you could say "first checkpoint is somewhere in tahrongi". then you need to check your map, and navigate to him.
another suggestion is to have everyone in an alliance - and have the checkpoints report times to the rest of the field. so when a racer reaches a checkpoint, they must /say checkpoint, and /p checkpoint, so everyone knows how they are doing along the way. the /say is to verify that they are actually at the checkpoint.
hmmmm...lets see how many more times i can use the word "checkpoint" in this post.

You'll be happy to hear that a race is being planned for people of your preference. Its called "The Selbina Dash".

Racers will line up as close to the middle of The La Theine Platue and dash to Selbina. There are NO checkpoints in this race because people will be lined up watching you run the short distances. Entry fee will be 1k as usual.

1st place: 15k
2nd place: 10k
3rd place: 5k
4th to last place: NOTHING

Well... You can't exactly make that a rule, because what if those THFs over 25 didn't have any other jobs over 20? Then they couldn't use a chocobo.

(But we are not sure which server, yet)

People trust me with their money for the sole fact that the first race prize fun came out of our pockets. That and if I ever crossed any of them, They would hunt me down and slit my face.

That, and seeing as 90% of the racers know me in game, it's not really that big of a deal. That and 1k gil is like table scraps at level 20 =P
