View Full Version : NA Beta on JPN servers?

I read somewhere that the north american beta will work on japanese servers or the other way around (don't remember which). So I have a few questions I would like to ask for clarification.
A) If I have a NA beta account and am running a NA beta client can I play on JPN servers?
B) If I have a JPN account and am running a NA beta client can I play on JPN servers?
C) If I have a JPN account and am running a NA beta client can I play on the NA beta server?
D) If I have a JPN account and am running a JPN client can I play on the NA beta server?
Now, onto my next question, and before I ask it I want to ask that you please clearly understand what I am saying. I am not asking to pirate a copy of the game. Now, for the question:
Assuming that B or C (from above) are true, is anyone with broadband willing to send me a copy of the NA Beta? *PLEASE READ* I am willing and ready to pay for a copy of the Japanese version of the game, but I would just as soon play it with an english client. I do not want someone to give me an illegal copy of the game or CD-Key or anything like that. I will be paying full price for the game (probably more after S&H) but I just would rather play on an english client.
Even if no one is willing to transfer the NA game to me I would still like to know the answers to the questions above. If for some reason (I have no idea why, but odder things have happened) the mods decide this is inappropriate can you leave the questions listed above and remove the last question (or ask me and I will)?
Thank you for the help,
-Micah

a- no
b- no
c- no
d- no
What your asking is illegal and thats warez. The english client will be release shortly and your are not authorized to use the beta version if square didnt accept you in the BETA, no matter what you think or if you have the japanese version.
BETA tester are also not authorized to send copy talk about or show the game to anyone outside the BETA tester group.
So just wait and stop stealing games.

Did you actually try to do any of those or are you just saying that because you *think* what I am asking is illegal? What I am asking is the exact same thing that European users do when a game is released in the US but not in Europe. It is also the same as what half of the people here are doing by purchasing a JPN game and playing it in the US.
I am not asking to get the game for free or to rip off any company. There is actually a good chance that I will end up paying for the game twice (JPN version and US version).
Normally, you are correct in saying that when a beta comes out for a game the developers do not want people getting it unless they were accepted into beta. However, in this case things are different because this "beta" is nothing more than a translation of a game that has already been release and is still being sold at stores in Japan. I would not be getting to play the game for free, I would still be paying for monthly access to their servers, I would still be paying for the game. The only difference is that I would be able to play it in my native language instead of playing it in a foreign language.

I don't think SE have enabled the usage of a beta client on any existing production server. I would have to agree with gplourde as to the answers of a,b,c, and d but I do not have any proof.
I would have thought that the beta testers would have agreed to a non-disclosure agreement so I'm not sure they would be able to sell it to you anyway.

Hmm... I didn't know that the beta testers signed an NDA. I didn't expect it either as it's just a translation, not an actual beta. Anyway, I am still curious for a response to A-D if it's not against the NDA to give me such an answer.

I own the japanese version and the NA beta so when i say no it mean no as in "i tested it" you can log on playonline and play tetra master but thats it ffxi is locked.
If you pay for the japanese version and download the english version from someone thats illegal. You paid a license for the japanese version not the english.
Believe it or not but square doesnt have a magic wand to translate games from japanese to english. They had to pay people to do it and that cost real world money.
Or maybe you think its fine to buy a book in japanese and steal the english version? Hey! I paid for the japanese version... Like thats gonna work heh
If you cant understand this dont think about playing ffxi because your probably not smart enough.

When you sign up for beta, and you check the box that saids "I agree," you just signed the NDA. You should also read the NDA before you agree to it, but a majority of the people skip it. I'm surprised you didn't know that either, since every beta has an NDA.

I am familiar with signing NDAs for betas, however because this game has been out in Japan for a year there isn't exactly a lot of information that could be "leaked" out about the game as is the case with most betas. It is for this reason that I am surprised there was an NDA.
As to gplourde, I don't know what I did to offend you so much but I appoligize for it, whetever it is. I do not think that they, "waved a magic wand" to translate the game. They translate a game so that they can get more buyers (from the US). In terms of them making money, if they charge $50 for the Japanese version and $50 for the US version does it really matter which version I purchase? Either way they get my $50 + $10 / month. Now, if they don't translate it to english then they will not get $50 from me at all. The only downside to my purchasing the game in Japanese instead of english is their statistics will be off by one. And one person in 1000 falls within a reasonable margin of error.

To answer your question it is still noX4...
It is beta, and official NA release will be in less than 2 months... If you have waited so long already, why try to cheat a little bit... Despite that WHY.
Beta server is completely separated from all JP servers, even they are all in Japan. No world shifting or whatsoever, and all chars will be deleted when beta is over. Trying our importers account in beta doesnt work just like gplourde said... Alot of people have tried that.
When NA ver come out, there is a CHANCE that you can use NA client and log into JP account... It is not CERTAIN keep in mind that. There are people buying JP version so that they can have a head start against people buying the NA release in late oct, but that is alittle risky and pointless. Japanese is not something you can just guess, it doesnt have ANY English alphabets.

As soon as your start playonline beta: "If you are not authorized to beta test this software, stop now".
As soon as you start FFXI, you have to click that you agree to the license agreement. That's as good as a signature.
The only thing I can do with importers is add them to my friend's list and spam messages to and from. :3

Okay, well thanks for the constructive replies. Although I still find it odd that you guys had to sign an NDA for a translation I will accept that is how it is and live with it.

Ok, part of what Micah is asking to do is illegal, but please be kind in pointing it out to him. Rude or abrasive replys only damage the situation not repair. No need to close at this time.

Micah, not to sound rude or anything, but in a nushell the answer to questions a-d are no. I signed an NDA as well, I am a beta tester for FFxi. They set up a server just for NA beta testers and only us, no one from outside can come in and no one from inside can go out, kinda makes me think that we are 'quarentined'(spelling?) with some bad disease or something, hehehe. But thats the answer to your 4 questions. :(

Do you actualy think that we are only beta testing a translation of the game. LOL. Have you ever try programming on system that use other language than english? If I had a japanase database do you think I could simply make in work by simply translating the data. I have to make sure the programmation also was redone to comprehend english. When you do a search do you think that if you didnt reprogram it, it would understand the english alphabet while it use to check for the japanese caracters first?
This beta doesnt only consist of translating the menu or the game would have been gone in retail way before that. They have alot of reprogramming to work. Just for the quest system the name of that item you give, the code must be able to understand what it is to be able to act on it. So no were not only testing this game to see if that nice text the Taru is right but we are still texting the mechanics of the game.
Geez
