I found this while looking thru the quest forums and am pretty sure Cobbi Chan may have forgotten about it .
So I wanted to post his info about the Dragoon AF quests .
He has them listed up to Part 2

Heres the link for said quest.

the quest part

Here's the scoop on Dragoon AF1. I just finished, and here's what you do.

1. Head to North San D'oria and speak to Miaux. You should get a cutscene.

2. Go to East Altepa to around the middle of the map and click on the ??? near a ruins. (I marked it on my map, but forgot to write down the exact coordinates. I'll post them later.) You'll then fight an NM. It was moderately hard, so be sure to have a full PT of 50+ or so.

3. Click on the ??? again once you finish the battle.

4. Return to Miaux to complete the quest and get your AF1 weapon!

Now as for AF2... my party is still trying to figure it out. I'll report back later!

From his very next post

Ah, okay <^^> The DRG AF1 is called Peregurin (Peregrin?) and basically looks like the first lance you get. Unimpressive looks, like most AF1 weapons.

Stats:

Level 42 - D61 - Delay492 - Dex+1 - Vit+1

AF2AF2 info~

1. Speak to Ceraulian in Port San D'oria. You should get a cutscene and he'll tell you he wants a Gold Hairpin for his leader.

2. Get a Gold Hairpin either thru buying from the AH (currently 50k) or making it with Goldsmith skillz. Then trade it to Ceraulian for another cutscene.

3. Now wait until the next day in real-time. This is based on japanese standard time, so 8am PST or 11am EST is when the new day would begin.

4. Talk to Ceraulian again to continue the story.

5. Run over to North San D'oria and speak to Miaux, the quest-giver for AF1 for more story. You should get the key item piasu..

6. Travel to Bastok and speak to the NPC standing outside the Goldworkers' guild, Ardea.

7. Now head back to San D'oria again, but this time go to West Ronfaure and speak to Esca at the tower-like structure directly west of San.

8. Now party up with high-levels, or alliance, because the NM fight is a tough one. Head to Batallia, then go through Eldieme until you reach the island in Batallia. There should be a ??? to touch near the cliff. A tiger NM should then spawn. Kill him and touch the ??? again to get another key item.

9. Finally, return to Ceraulian and talk to him to complete the quest and recieve your AF2 pants!

Guess I'll cover the rest.

Dragoon AF3, Draken Ahmet Helm.Def 16, HP+12, MND+5, Thunder Resist +10, Wyvern Breath Effect Up

Finish AF 1+2. Speak to Rahal in the Chateau in San D'oria. After speaking to him, go and speak to Ceraulian until he has nothing new to say (or atl east mentions Kuftal)

Get a Kuftal Coffer key. Dropped by Robber Crabs and Lizards. By 60 you should have leveled in there enough to have gotten one. Open the coffer, get key item.

Return to Rahal. Speak to Balasiel in South SanDoria...(NPC from PLD quest).

From here you will have to go to Uggalepih and fight 2 NM Dark Stalkers. It's in a hidden room near the hate reset NPC. Bring about 12-15 60+ to win safely. Have your Wyvern called. Touch the ??? again to get the helm.

AF4, Draken Finger, Def 15, HP+11 , Dex+3, Weapon Parry Skill +10
Wyvern ACC Up.

Talk to Guslam in the armour shop in Upper Jueno.

Need the Bohyada coffer key and coffer. Key dropped by Rabbits, Turnips, Saplings, Crabs, Goobues.

Go back and talk to Guslam, then the Mithra in the Tensyoudou HQ. Go to port jeuno and examine the ??? near the duty free shop for an event.

Go to Zvahl Castle, Examine the Torch to fight Dark Spark, NM Bomb. Not too hard, bring a party of high 50s. Return to Guslam for the Glove.

5 & 6 are the Draken Mail and Draken Greaves, respectively. Can do once you have accepted the Glove quest.

Greaves are from the Quicksands Coffer. Beetles, Lizards, and Worms drop the key. Item is in the coffer. Sneak only needed. Anticans are stupid, it's an easy coffer get.

Mail is in Ifrits' Cauldron. Hellish. Most things drop keys, but stick to Opo Opos, Bees, and Bombs near entrances. Bring a good amount of people. Bring Silent Oil and Prism Powder to sneak and invis for the coffer, since bombs will detect your magic and kill you a lot.

Draken Mail, Def 38, HP+15, Vit+4, Water Resist +10, Wyvern Regen

Draken Greaves, Def 10, HP+12, Agi+3, Dodge Skill +5, Jump Effect Up

dunno if ayako forgot to mention, but in boyhada bark spiders at enterance drop keys too, i was able to get one for my drg friend with only him (lv55 at the time) lv64 pld and myself (lv66 at the time) and it wasn't too hard.

Just curious, what are the requirements for the quests? I'm only level 30 right now, was just screwing around before bed to see if I could get the qyest. For AF1 All Miaux says is something along the lines of "Why must all the crafters be uptight?" Any info would be great, and the sooner I can get the lance the better, my Bronze Spear +1 isn't cutting it anymore ^_^

Those Spiders are easy, yeah (and yes I did forget to mention them, thanks). I find Bohyada also is an easy key, since you will level off the Crabs for at least one level.

Just an add on for AF1. Miaux is located in North Sandoria outside the Blacksmith.

Finished my AF1 yesterday and searched for a good half hour for where he was :D

As for the actual fight of AF1, the location in East Altepa is (H-6). The fight was pretty easy with a 70 DRK and a 55 WHM + 43 DRG (me). However, its physical defense was extremely high since both me and the DRK were doing minimal damage to it (a lot of 0s) and the only thing that was hurting it was Gullotine. It has around 2500hp I estimate.

Hope this helps :D

Also, I feel like an idiot for asking this, but what's the best way to camp the coffer chest in Quicksands? Just stay at one till it pops, or run around to all of them?

Completed AF2 tonight. Here's some more information on the actual fight.

You can sneak and invis your way completely through Eldieme Necropolis. As a 53 DRG, the NM Tiger was hitting me for 140. It was hitting the 71 PLD I had along for around 60-80. It frequently roars (AE Paralyze). I also had a 58 WHM and a 70 RDM along.

For a party of 71 PLD, 70 RDM, 58 WHM, 53 DRG, the fight was extremely easy. However a group of around 55 fighting the NM tiger would be epic but doable :D

I estimate the NM Tiger to have around 8000hp.

Wondering where exactly i need to go in quicksands to get to the coffer. Also I dont have a map for that area yet. Can someone tell me where to get it? Pretty much would like that coord for the coffer.
Not sure if it a ??? im looking for or what?

http://www.speakeasy.org/~sticks/ffxi/treasure/title.html

That site has a map of Quicksands with all the coffer spawns marked on it.

And what I did to find the coffer was run around to the different spawns till I found one that had spawned.

Ayako

**WARNING** to anyone hunting the Kuftal coffer, there is now a HNM that wanders the main area, where all the coffer spots are. Until people hit 75, this thing isn't going anywhere. He runs faster than a chocobo, and will kill you if he sees you. Take caution. Invis would be the way to avoid him, but there is no confirmation on whether he can or can't see through it

After 2 days of sneaking / invising around Ifrits Cauldron, 30k worth of sneak oils, and invis oils for when bombs were near, 48 hours of headaches the Lunarians suffered listening to a kitten stuck in hell meow sadly and lamented... I GOT MY AF BP!!!!

Finished AF6 tonight (Drachen Mail in Ifrit's Cauldron).

Had a level 70 Beastmaster solo a key for me. There's only 3 coffer spawns in the first "map" of the area and all are very easy to reach with some Silent Oil + Prism Powder.

Mine popped in the corner of the right turn at the first intersection :D

you punk /jealous... Lol

my set PT killed and got me a key kinda quickly, then we ran off to get more keys. They would have helped me get my coffer but I wanted it so bad I got impatient and obsess with solo sneaking for it.

Ifrits Cauldon is like.. 8 maps? I had no idea where chest spawns were for a long time

>< How doable would AF2 be if I was lv I needed to equip it? (like on estimation how many of what lv.. keeping in mind most NAs that I trust to help are my lv to 56ish)? Doable or insta death? I can already tell AF is going to be painful ; ;

Sanguine
12-26-2003, 10:47 PM
Doable definitely, just that the trip through Eldieme is annoying unless you know the way. Once you get there, the fight is simple.

caelestis
12-27-2003, 02:18 PM
hehe ty ^^

Yea I worry most about going through Eldieme.. I *hate* that place as a direct result of Genkai 1 >< But how difficult is it to go through? I am not sure of the direction to take to go through it, but I'm gunna try to look at some maps and figure it out hopefully tonight :x

But now that I think of it... anyone *know* the way through? I've been looking at maps and have a decent idea, but I don't want to pull my whm friend to a probable death sneaking me through to find out (thats what my rdm friend is for.. but hes not online to bug into it ._.)

i heard it's possible to get to the south island through beacidine.. anyone have any ideas as to how

Shuketsu
12-31-2003, 09:06 AM
It's kind of hard to explain, because I was led through it, but first, you enter Eldieme from the I-10 entrance in Batallia. From there, you go in, I THINK hang a left when you hit the R whatever ghost monsters, and eventually you end up at the gate system. There are 4 gates, but apparently, only 2 can be open at once, and they're always ones directly across from each other. Anyways, you need to open the southern gate through the system of switches, and go through there. After that, you just head down and drop in the middle gravel pit thing in one of those large rooms with the ghosts. Then you have to climb up a small tunnel maze, but that one is pretty easy to figure out. You'll end up on the island after exiting the tunnel.

Edit: The NM is reaaaally easy, by the way. I went at level 49 due to a fun fun happy time level down, with a level 64 warrior and a 67 white mage. After dying and having a rather pain in the ass trip through eldieme, the warrior was convinced to utterly annihilate the tiger >_> So the fight went something like this: All buffs+2hr, meditate, raging rush, raging rush, renkei damage, hex strike, penta thrust. Tiger died a few hits later. While this is an exceptional case, if you just have a few high levels helping... it's really easy. Even before the warrior started up his self renkei, we had taken off a large chunk of it's life just through normal attacks.

I got my body yesterday. We went with 8 people, 2 dragoons who needed the key. Summary of what happened.

Kill first wasp...drop key
kill second wasp...final sting no drop
kill third wasp...drop key

I went there this morning with 12 sneak/invis powders got down to around 4 by the time I found it (woohoo) This thread definetely helped, I'm going to be doing the helm today, or tomorrow when I reach 60.

Can someone post information on how deep you have to go into the Temple before you can trigger the 2 NMs?

Finished AF3 Helm tonight with the help of 9 other people ranging from level 60 to 73.

When you touch the ??? spot with your wyvern called, be sure to haul ass to your alliance or else you're going to get 2 way ganged by the 2 NMs who hit you for 150+ each.

Then you get treated to a nice explanation to the whole Dragoon story. Kawaii wyvern~!

3 down, 3 to go ._. Would have Gloves ready for fight, but the WHM we had wasn't too happy with PTing with NAs I suppose, because even after everyone said OK to pass coffer key (including him) he still lot, took, and "disconnected" (logged out on us.. he was mad that he died once... sorry, DS+ Curaga II is a no brainer that you'll get hate), thus leaving with my key ._.

Why does AF have to be this friggin hard?

What level would you recommend to go key hunting?

Can AF 2(Tiger NM) be done by a PT of 50s? 2 WHM, 1RDM, 1BLM, 1PLD, and me.

Also, I accepted the Coffer quest for Bohyada, but can I go do the Quicksand coffer first then do the Bohyada one?

PT of 50s? Most likely. Might be tough, though. As for the coffer, once you accept AF4 you can do them in any order.

Edit: Seeing cael's post, ignore my PT of 50s suggestion >_>

1) No >< Another DRG I tried to help with it had a low lv tank like that. We all died (me twice >.). So probably not.

2. As long as AF2 I think is completed and AF4 accepted (gloves) you can do AF 5 and 6 (greaves and body). May be wrong tho about the AF2 completion.

Hmm well I am going to go and try and see if I can get the Greaves from Quicksand.

Then I'll try the AF2 with this setup:
51PLD/WAR, 2- 51WHM/BLM, 1BLM/WHM, 1RDM/BLM, myself, 56 RDM/BLM, 54 DRG/WAR, 65 DRK, 51 BRD/WHM, 51 NIN/THF.

Hope that is good enough for it...

I got some slightly higher JP to help with AF 2 : me (50 at the time), another 53 DRG who needed it, 57 PLD, 60 WHM, 61 BLM, 56 RDM. Died really really easy. I'm pretty sure a level 52-54 party could probably kill it, and what Taolynn posted sounds like plenty of overkill.

All of the posts in this thread have been really helpful, great read. Hopefully I can find a coffer in Quicksands with minimal effort. My question though is I am reading the speakeasy treasure map site but unfortunately I'm not sure which map is which entrance. Which entrance has the larger collection of chests, west or east altepa? I don't have a map of Quicksands so I cannot really look and compare.

Edit : nevermind, found a site with game maps screenshotted which helps compare the 2.

http://page.freett.com/mapers/map/quicksand.html

Don't mind the popups. Hope this is helpful to someone looking for a Quicksands Coffer.

Shuketsu

West Altepa, at the place with Beetles, and Antican Hastatus things is the place to get keys at, drops fastest there. East Altepa, in the L shaped quicksands entrance kind of in the SW of the map has almost all the coffers.

If he doesn't aggro someone within a 30 minute time span, he disappears. To keep him popped we had to keep aggroing him then escape. So in theory Kuftal could be safe for all but 30 mins out of the day (19hr pop)

anyone have a map of the path through eldeime to the NM for AF2? i have no clue

caelestis
02-24-2004, 10:03 AM
Path from what I remember...

- Enter to Eldieme from the southernmost entrance (one closest to the island)
- Go forward, make left at the first T intersection and follow that path.
- you come to another T that gives you an option of going right I believe. Keep straight.
- You come to a room filled with Liches and Fallen Knights (those who finished Genkai 1 and visited here, you know the horror). I'm not all too sure where the switch is, but have someone hit the switch to where the southern door opens and have your PT hurry through it.
- From there go down the path until you enter a large room filled with dirt boxes. Walk *AROUND* them until you get to the middle most box and walk into it and drop down to the level below.
- After the drop it's a direct run SE down the path. There is one way it splits, but either part takes you. At the part where the path splits a second time, go left. Going right would be very painful, as the NM Skull of Pride tends to pop there ._. But left takes you to the island.

anyone know what lvl party is needed for the volcanic bees in ifrit's cauldron for the coffer key? i'm currently lvl58.

edit: eh, nevermind. did it today with a party consisting of
56 pld, 58 sam, 59 blm, 59 whm, and myself. the pld had a hard time holding aggro so we decided not to use meat kabobs. we
stayed at the entrance and pulled bee's. a couple of members died because of the bee's final sting. overall, not as bad as what everyone claims. we didn't venture further inside for fear of the bombs. at 58, the bee's rated Tough and Very Tough.

i've asked alot of high level help and no one would help. it was very discouraging. over the course of 4 days, i've asked 16 high lvl bst's to help plus other high level players. no luck.

Once you drop into pit in the middle, you end of on the left side of this map. All you need to do is exit out towards the SE of map.

I have accepted AF3 but am not going to mess with it until i am lvl 60. So i want to do AF4,AF5, anf AF6 soon. That site is helpful in listing the coffer locations but if i have no map of quicksand or kuftal or ifrits it's not as helpful as it could be. Where can i buy or how can i get a map of Quicksand Caves,Ifrit's Cauldron, and Kuftal Tunnel.

If you already accepted the glove quest from Guslam, you'll obtain ur AF part when you open the coffer at those following locations. Once you obtain your AF, the next time you open your coffer you'll obtain a map of those following areas. Unless you want to be counter-productive, then you can just not talk to Guslam, go and open coffers for the map, and then open those coffers one more time for your AF parts.

I will open coffers later for maps just for the sake of having them. I finally got my kuftal tunnel coffer key today only have Ifrit's Cauldron left which scares me to death. I really don't want to die opening a coffer or hunting keys or the coffer itself. :( Oh well i should be getting my gloves tomorrow. Everyone tells me it's an easy coffer to get i hope they are right.

The ironic part of this is that you have to open the coffer in these new areas for the maps, yet you need to have the map to find the coffers....hahahahaha

Well, I found all my AF coffers, and it was well worth it. This thread really helped me out. I didn't really use the maps from Speakeasy since I can't really match it up to my screen...n....yeah...i suck :(

oh oh...I saw the NM Dragon. He killed a full pt in less than 1 min. It's sad...and somewhat amusing to watch though ... am I evil? hehehe

Thank you all for this guide! After all, it helped a lot! I managed to get my AF1 at lvl 40 with the help of a lvl 73 WAR/WHM.

I was expecting it to be a lot harder after a bit of research on Allakhazam and here, but we actually did pretty well. After all, I've heard reports that the fight can be darned scary... I was fearing the worst. However, with just a spark lance (no battery armed), I was averaging about 24 a hit, and he was going for about 43 (I was expecting to hit close to 0). He also used something like rampage and and chained with me, so we ended up doing rather well. He only had to heal once or twice. ^^

Just about 3k more until I can use the weapon!!! XD

I have finished the AF gloves quest (I got the gloves). Also I finished AF1 and AF2. Today I went to Quicksand Cave and opened a coffer but I received a map instead of the AF boots. I went back to talk to Guslam all he said is "You found the gauntlets? Amazing!" Did I miss something? Thanks for any help.

I find this very weird... I have yet to even finish AF2 (lower body), yet I was able to accept the Af4 (gloves) quest. For af2, I've done everything but fight the tiger, yet while messing around bored in Jeuno, I was able to talk to Guslam about it. Level 51 when the happened.

All of this looks hella hard compared to other AF quests. It'll be hard to convince people to travel all the way to W. Altepa, and even harder to get them to travel through the hellhole Eldieme. A coffer key in the Cauldron, and a double boss fight in Uggalipeh also seem next to impossible.

Did you guys get through this with relative difficulty? There aren't many high level EN players because they keep quitting.

People hype up the fights too much, it's all easy stuff. I had full AF by 56, I'm sure you could lazily get it by 60, easy enough. Ifrit's isn't a problem, if you can't get a pt to go try asking a BST, they exp there off coffer mobs 24/7. My AF3 fight was over in about 90 seconds.

Yes AF3 is EASY. For one thing you only have to kill one of the shadow and let the other despawn. I had a 75 RDM and a WHM duo it for me. Hell the WHM didn't even much at all, just watch out for repops in the room. Any 60+ tank can tank it pretty easily.

How would you let it despawn?

If you have a BST or SMN have them pull one with their pet. If you don't, cast Sneak on a puller and have them use a Range Attack or Spell. They don't link but they do aggro. My RDM was able to safely pull it and took it back to the middle of the room. If you take a while to kill it like I did since it was only a RDM and a level 57 DRG, the other shadow will despawn. It will count as a kill though so you can go up and check the ??? once you kill the one shadow you pull.

So when it pops and you haul ass they don't auto-aggro like the leeches in Ninja quest?

Edit: My mistake.

WARNING: They are undead so they WILL see through your Sneak if you're in yellow health.

Getting Dragoon AF isn't hard so long as you keep your wits with you. You don't need uber high-level help (honestly, I never had any except for people who were skilling up in my coffer parties). You won't have to worry about bombs if you stay near the entrance - most of the mobs near the entrance drop the key you'll need. Bees are annoying at most, but you could be fighting bombs.

As for AF3, I believe you need to have your wyvern out to spawn the shadows. I read it somewhere, but I never tried without so I'm not quite sure. Better safe than sorry, I always say.
