I just got my version of FFXI. I did all the instalation for the HDD hardware and I put my playonline CD. I got stuck on step 14. I have broadband by the way. I keep trying to onnect. When I connect, it says it's connecting..then all of a sudden the error menu comes. Has this happened to anyone? What ISP did you use? thanks in advanced.

Please provide or answer the following, as more information is needed:
1.) Are you connected to the internet through a NAT DSL/Cable Modem router? Like a Linksys Router/Switch? (Basically is there something that connects physically from your modem to another box before your PS2?)
1b.) If you do have a router, did you configure it to allow computers on the network to pick up an IP address automatically?
1c.) If you do have a router, did you configure the router to allow access through the router? (Like setting the PS2 to be in the DMZ? Safe probably for a PS2, but highly dangerous for a regular computer.)
2.) Are you connected to the internet via broadband using a Cable Modem or a DSL modem?
2b.) If on a DSL modem and no router, did you select to login via PPPoE in step 13 and enter your login information?

The 1st version of the PS2 POL software has a problem with some routers ...
My router doesn't feed the DHCP information properly and the POL ends with no "broadcast address" for your network.
Put it on manual mode and fill in the info in this order :
IP ADDRESS > Your intranet IP for the PS2
Netmask > 255.255.255.0
Broadcast Address > 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway > Your router's IP
You will end with a static IP with this one, but if it's a small network you're going to have no problems providing you put the PS2 IP higher than the 1st IP for the DHCP.
After POL downloaded the patches and get updated you can erase this configuration and go back to automatic configuration (DHCP)

1) No, I am not connected to the internet through a net dsl/cable modem router. I guess this clears your 2 other questions?
2) I use a cable modem. I tried to connect using the last option that says "ethernet". everytime I try to connect, the first attempt appears, goes off, and the screen shown on step 14 stays there for quiet a while and when it's done it gives me an error message.
