How Scavenger works?

Please if you cant tell me how scavenger works and if you know any sites about the items to find map...

to use scavange you simply go to your ability list and select "Scavange" your character will knell and dust will fly up, you may or may not get an item, so far the items i have got are...
1)Arrow-wood (used to made arrows, in capentry guild)
2) some other horn looking thing, (sells well if you get a stack)
3) Chocobo feather (use with arrow-wood board to make arrows)
4) a box type thing you use to give you a rondom amount of lv 1 bolts
