question about jap/us servers

Not sure if anyone knows, but I'll ask:

Can you play on japanese servers with US client, and vice-versa?

If so, in what language will NPCs talk to you, if you, for exemple, have a US client playing on a japanese server?

The answer is yes. All the menus are in english, but I'm not sure about the npc speeches. I'm pertty sure those will be english as well too.

That would make sense, indeed. I was wondering since this type of text (npc's) are mostly server side..

ok its 100% positive that you can play with jap ppl on there servers and the npc will be in english :thumbsup:

For those of you who play import, I know for a fact that all the pictures that I have seen, the menus and the interface were all in japanese. Have they implemented a patch yet which gives you an option to switch to an english interface, maybe to prepare for the NA release? This is in reference to the import version not the Beta. I remember reading a post by bishop stating that some of the .dat files were in english or something to that extent, I really didnt understand what was meant by that. I thought since the NA version is only 2 months away, the japanese servers might have already switched over to an english interface or are in the process of doing it. Thanks.

accualy SE said that it depends on what version of the game you buy if you buy the NA version they will be in english (BUT im not sure if there will be a patch if you can change the language at anytime)

I'd doubt SE would do that. But I think SE put english translations inside the import already so it simplifies things a lot. That way, they don't have to radically change the data inside both the NA and JP games. But yea, there are translations already in the import. Heres the proof. If you instaled ffxi in the default folders, open up C:\Program Files\Playonline\FINAL FANTASY XI\Rom\0\1.dat in notepad or a hex editor. Scroll all the way to the bottom and you'll find english text accompanying the japanese text. For some reason, I can't copy and paste the text, but for those of you who do not believe me, go check it out yourself.

More proof is that you can log on to japanese servers using NA client, and log on to NA beta using japanese client.

I think we all kinda knew that as old news. :zzz: no offense or anything. I'm sure you didn't mean to be that obvious on purpose though.
