I thinking about it and i just want to know if it is really worth it to train yourself to becoming a high level ranger? Are rangers devastating when at a high level? Or just back up support for the other teamates? Plus i have noticed that parties really bite down on you if you are low on arrows why? Any have a comment for this topic maybe who are rangers and tell why is it good to be a ranger.

Well im a RNG so maybe i can help you out,
1) Yes, RNG are the most damaging class at high lvs (even more than a DRK) They give out insane damage, (you should see the 2 hr, omg ONE HIT DEATH....almost)
2) Partys hate it when you run out of arrows, because that is your main weapon.
Not melee, but arrows. So if you run out, they will be like, "why do we need a weak fighter"
3) its good to be a rng cause of the lack of them, you see tons of PLD af, but only a few RNGs, second its good because of the reaction you get, some people are shocked when you say you want to be a rng. hehehe:spin:
4)I would say this is the most different job in the whole game, its a lot of fun to play, and it is a totaly different spin on fighting
it may be tough at the begining, (as with a thf)
but if you hang with it up to lv 30 it gets a lot easier

I would like to add that rngs are usually the poorest class since ammo does cost quite a lot of money. Soloing with ranger is fun too. Use range attacks against stationary enemies like worms in qufim.

Rng is an adv job. You need to get a basic job to lvl 30 before you are offered the adv job quests. I suggest you actually worry about what you're going to be for 30 levels before you even start thinking about the ranger.

Ok A ranger sounds like fun, Right now I'm a Kitty in San d'Ortaga {or however you spell it} & My Kitty is a warrior, I use a polearm as main weapon, But what I'm realy interested in is that I have a long bow w/ wood & bone arrows. I can take most monters down in 2-4 shots, & at close range I use the polearm. I can do masive damage with this character but this is the problem:
Arrows up keeps are expinsive, good arrows are hard to find, So How do you make arrows in wood working? I know that if you use an Earth crystal + hand fulls of Stone arrow heads + arrowood Lumber + a bag of Chocobo Flechings = A stone arrow
Here is the part I cant find or make:
#1 where do you find, &/or how do you make "Handfulls of Stone Arrow heads?
#2 where do you find, &/or make "A bag full of Chocobo Flchings"?
#3 how about bone arrows? whats the formula to make them? where do you find the items & componets to craft these types of arrows?
If some kind comrade out there can directe this poor lil'kitty girl on the right path I would be most apreciatave, {Might even curl up in your lap & let you pet my ears =^.^= }
Thank you. =^.~=

1)You can find them from worms or buy the at a auction house (they are a white rock)
2) you can buy them from a NPC selling them outside the chocobo stables
3) i dont know how to make bone arrows, that is for the boneworkers guild.
The recipe is...
1 wind crystal
1 rock
1 arrow wood board
2 chocobo feathers

 ok so the only white rocks I've got off worms are "Flint Stones" I get iron ore and other ore once and a while as well.
so if you combine:1 rock + 1 arrow wood board + 2 chocobo feathers in a wind crystal you'll craft a set of arrows?
I thought you had to gat a "handfulls of arrow heads"?
"Arrowood Boards"
& "Bag of Chocobo fletchings" to make the arrows?
I'll try your formula real quick & get back to you if it works.
If not, How do you make Arrow heads?
& how do you make chocobo Fletchings?
Thanks for your help Exsol

Does using ranger as your sub job work.
RM/Rng
From what i have read in man of the posts rgn is really only good for a main job.

Partially true...you do gain an extra advantage to subbing ranger. Ranger is the only class that is capable of using the ranged weapon Skills...subbing the ranger will also allow use of these skills. Warrior/Ranger will allow the warrior to use Flaming, Piercing, etc. arrow attacks for additional renkei possibilities. Rangers also get the level one ability of ranged accuracy up, plus some handy passive skills such as Alertness (lowers chance of being detected by enemies). Ranger also has a higher AGI than most other classes so evasion will be better with a ranger sub. Other than that though i can't think of any else at the moment.

"ithink i want to pick a ranger class but what a sub job?"
Thief makes an excellent sub job for rangers.
thief makes an ok sub for rgn, but if u read some of the other posts, sam and war both make a better sub.
I personally perfer sam to war

To make stone arrows from scratch take two flint stones and use a wind crystal on them. That will give you 6 handfuls of stone arrowheads. Then take 2 chocobo feathers and use a wind crystal. 6 fletchings. That will give you 198 stone arrows. For bone arrows it's 2 bone chips and a wind crystal to give you bone arrowheads and 2 yagudo feathers to give you 6 fletchings. 1 handful of arrowheads+1 piece of arrowwood lumber+1 bag of fletchings = 33 arrows.

It isn't the least popular class but it's towards the bottom. It's just because most people are turned off because of the costs involved which really aren't as bad once you get into a routine. Starting off is the hardest. I think there are less BST or BRD.

RNG are not very popular because of this. Low level RNG sucks. Accuracy is way too low, and frankly, some people play the job so poorly that they make a lasting image of what they think a RNG is like.
Not to mention a lot of people are not familiar with their weapon skills and how they skillchain/renkei with them.
This is starting to turn around though, because a lot of people now has experience playing with a high level ranger, and thus they know what the potential is like.

in my (somewhat limited) experience, rng is the first choice when looking for a damage dealer, it's not uncommon to get invites even when i'm not flagged for PT.

I don't have the game yet, but from what I have learned about the ranger, there are 4 usefull subjops:
- thief, give you dex bonus, you earn more gil and items ( thief must be at lv 15 or higher) thief have passive evasion bonus bonus.
-war, gives you str bonus, abilitys as berseker and defender can be usefull. war get passive attack and defend bonus.
-sam, give you some str bonus ( sam have B for str, War A). Sam have usefull ability such as hearteye (allow you to evade the next attack). faster tp (tactical points) gaining ability and store tp ability, these work great with the ranger weapon abilitys (sidewinder). It is difficult to gather pt with rangers, because tp will reset to 0 if bow/gun/arrow/ammo or if you reload, with sam as subjop you chance of filling your tp gauge will increase. However the tp storing and faster tp gaining abilitys will come at high levels (30, so your ranger must be at lv 60).
-ninja, ninja will give you less dex than thief ( ninja=B for dex, th=A for dex) but still anice bonus. daul-wielding archerknifes is good for melee combat and you will gain tp fast. Ninjajutsu can help ( invisibil for 1 minute, or evade to attack) if ther is to much hate on you.

I think you should start as a thief, gather a nice amount of mony and increase your guild level. At level 30 do the ranger quest, make thief your subjop, because you already have leveld it up to 30. at level 46 switch your subjop to ninja ( 46, becuase the usefull ninjajutsu will beusefull at level 23 and above). At level 60 switch to sam.
* if you go on nm (strong monsters that appear rarely) hunt, you should go as Ranger/ninja four the next reasons:
-these monsters have tons of hp, your arrows will probly run out, with ninja you can just battle as melee ( daul -wielding archernifes) with daggers. If it is good you should have leveld your weapon skills and know some weapon skills that may prove usefull.
*again ninjajutsu will help, because you will gain much hate.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I think a lot of you guys use to much abbreviations, there are many hwo don't have the game and won't be able to follow you with al these terms, so try to use less abbreviations please.
thanx already:)
