Switching version, but keeping character

If I buy the american version and make a cool character and play a lot and he gets really strong and I am all happy, but then Square finally decides to release a european FFXI version(I live there). Now I wanna buy the european version, because the connection speed is better or whatever, I just decide to buy the european version.
Can I take the cool character from the american version to the new european version?

Well, it sounds like japanese accounts will be playable on us software. If that's the case, then it would stand to reason that you could do the same with a european version.

This is not true. You should be able to access any PlayOnline account from both a PC and a PS2, and use the same character.
