which weapon?

hello all. I am currently a level 16 monk with my hth stat maxed out for my level. when i get my sub job ability i am going to be a thief with a monk sub job. my question is what weapon should i use once i'm a thief/monk? should i stay with the knuckles since my hth is so high or should i go ahead and use a thief's weapons? thanks for your time.

Knuckles would be your best bet since your main job is MNK.

my main isn't going to be monk. as previously stated i'm going to be a thief as main and monk as sub. i said that 3 times in my begining post. If your going to respond to a post please read it first. It does nothing but make you look bad. Now then... Can someone please answer my question? with a thief as my MAIN and monk as my SUB what weapon would i be best off using?

Use Grapple and 1H Sword till LVL33, then Dagger because you will able to use the Viper Bite WS then.

but out of grapple and 1h sword which would i be better off using? the thief job will be starting out at level 1. btw wasn't angry, sorry if it came out that way. :D

I personally used all three One Hand Sword, Grapples, and Dagger just in case my PT needed any of the three for a renkei. Heres what you do when you start out you can either choose to use Grapples or One Hand then use that till about level 20-25 then start using Dagger. You use Dagger then becuase you want to raise your Weapon Level for it so you can have Viper Bite at level 33.

Knuckles would be the best choice in my opinion. The only reason why I recommended 1H Sword as well is that sometimes when you're in a PT, people will ask you to use it for Renkei(what is this called in the US version?) purposes. For the most part though, you'll be using Knuckles.

Yea, you might as well use all 3. Most of the time, if you're fightin in large parties, you're weaponskills will max out pretty fast...

I'm going to start off as a Warrior until I can sub then I'm going to be Thief/Warrior all the way.

For WAR, since you're going to switch to THF/WAR later, use 1H Sword and/or grapple. Grapple is not really necessary since it will max out fast when you start playing THF.

For THF/WAR, read previous messages ;) THF/WAR and THF/MNK will pretty much use the same weapons until LVL33 I believe.

Or does it all come down to WS? In which case, Grapple or 1 Hand?

It will be a Mithra THF/WAR if that matters.

When you are fighting tote2 monsters (super strong or whatever its called in NA version) you won't be hitting the enemy that much anyway.

So, your pt's damage output will be renkei and blm's nuke. Grapple WS combo = 3 hits, 1h sword WS fastblade = 2hits.

ez math 3hits > 2 hits ^^

thats why grapple > sword in most case.

Furthermore, Combo WS(grapple) can be the last position in renkei for the Nuclear Heat(fire lv2) renkei.. which is really hell strong..

not like fastblade, if put thf in the last position, fastblade will be Cutoff which is earth lv1 - . -'' ... well, its the weakest renkei.. as far as i know.

the reason to put thf in the last position in renkei is to boost up renkei damage from fuiuchi or fuidama ^^

At what level to we get combo? Also, for sub until 30, would it be better to go with monk or warrior? I was planning MNK for added dex and grapple abbilities up till 30, but if WAR is better please say why, thanks :).

I went with /war when i was < 30

because, at higher lv SOMETIMES (kinda seldom ^^') some PTs still need an emergency taunter, also, after lv33 I stopped using grapple, so /mnk is kinda useless (again, sometimes pt need tankei WS for renkei.. so /shrug)

pros of each sub

/war - double attack(fun!), emergency taunter, useful when you wanna up lv your other sub like /nin /sam /mnk


/mnk - good before you start using dagger, kinda useless after that, needed when fighting skeleton (when? lol)

well, I would say go with war for the long run and /war also important for other job you wanna up too (including monk)

however, /mnk is also important. A professional thf would need both lv35+

Thanks for helping, I'll go THF/WAR till 30 now, then THF/NIN. I'll also use MNK for WAR sub, so it all works out :).

I used Monk till 30 for the HP boost. I'm not a War hater or anything just dont like them :p .
