Can I play FFXI Jap with a PAL PS2 from Europe ?

Hello!

I have a PS2 with a mod-chip to Play Import Games, and now, I am playing with the PC version of FFXI.

I have Internet with my PS2 in Europe, and my question is:
If i buy FFXI Jap PS2 Version, could i Play from Europe, or I have to be in Japan to play in the PS2 :?

Well seeing as your PS2 is chipped, then it will run JP games. I'm not sure about the language though, you wont be able to type in JP, cause the machine cant support JP characters.

Anyway, my guess is that it CAN work but you just wont be able to type in JP.

It may just work, cant guarante anything sorry :( Someone else might know?

im pretty sure ffxi will detect the modchip somehow, plus, the hardware (hdd and stuff) wouldnt work.

You can play from anywhere.
You can not play Japanese FFXI without Japanese PS2+japanese Hardrive+Japanese Modem.
Unless you have DMS3 or Messiah series with stealth feature to turn off your modchip, FFXI will not play in a modchipped PS2

If you are indeed playing the JP version, send a /tell to Carlosr as he has a Spanish LS on Ragnarok.

Sony has a security system called DNAS. It prevents the use of any kind of non authorized combinations (USA Software with JP units or euro, JP software on US/EU units) and some modchips are also detected. If you are spotted as modchip owner your PS2 serial number will be blacklisted on DNAS server. Since you will be logging on a japanese DNAS server, you probably will not earn a ban but it will surely don't let you even start the software installation. After the software is installed you need the HDD browser software for your PS2 region, as you need it to boot the POL software.

I use a SCPH-30000 japanese unit with BBNavi.30 for FFXI.
The same HDD can be formated and used in a US unit with the HDD utility disc provided on the FFXI Beta package (It's same as the 1st HDD disc for japanese units, which was originally released in 2001)

You also can't install PS2 FFXI from copies. Thanks to DNAS. ;)
