A friend of mine with the import (rich bitch) told me that he recently PT'd with a MNK/SAM 60/30+ (since it had TP gain) and he said it did awesome DMG, and that his Renkei were right up there with the SAM due to short delay. I have to admit, MNK is the LAST of the first 6 classes I ever considered playing (mostly because I disliked it in FFV) however, I must admit that this made me interested. Actually, I've recently been thinking that a WAR/SAM, THF/SAM and MNK/SAM would all be superior to the SAM/??? due to the fact that as long as they are above a lv 60 there is nothing else for the SAM to learn anyways. Well, just looking for opinions I've also been reading around on Monks and I guess they are very popular against bosses. Well with that TP and VIT boost from the SAM I think they sould be very bad ass.

No one has any opinions?

I do!
I like the idea. Actually anything subbed to a Monk's gonna make me happy. But my thoughts on it were that you get tons of TP action from landing counter attacks too. So combined with SAM's TP stuff... that equals a good time. On the Monk thread, someone was hating all over this idea saying the only decent SAM sub ability comes at level 40. Umm... isn't there a sweet one at level 10?

I truely feel any non warrior job subbing sam before they are level 60 with sam being level 30. . that sam is a worthles sub due to the lack of abilities. The stats gained from subbing sam won't outweigh the lack of abilities you could have with subbing practically any other job other than say ninja. I mean the main reason everyone wants to sub samurai in the first place is for TP issues and reasons, and the only thing that's gona help you earn more TP than usual is their ability "Meditate" which isn't learned until level 30. I personally like my monks to either sub thief or warrior. thief for the stat bonuses and even though it's not as strong when subd, backstab is always nice for WSs. and i like warrior so i have a backup taunter who can take the heat when they have to.

I agree completely, here is what I want to do:

- Play a MNK/WAR WAR/MNK to a lv 30
- lv a SAM/WAR to a lv 30+
- lv my MNK/WAR to a 60
- Play as a 60+ MNK/SAM

- When I'm done with all that in 10 years, I'll lv my SAM/WAR to a 60.

What do you think now? About MNK/SAM?

well a level 60 monk sam is incredible imo . . .monks really get a good selection of WS to play with and subbing sam would only help that cause. There are only 2 downsides that i see to this combination though. 1 you won't be able to taunt at crutial times (but let's pretend you already have a super solid tank who doesn't need others to taunt lol) and the other downside to subbing SAM would be this. Jobs like DRK, MNK, THF, RNG get incredibly hard hitting or numerous hitting WS in the later levels. If they go apeshyt with "meditate" and keep doing these insane WS back to back raising to much hate may become an issue. But i'm sure if you planed it right you could get away with doing more than normal WS without raising too much hate. (unless you're doing gillotine after darkness twice in a row [snicker])

Cool, that's what I was hoping. I have a group of friends, (I think I've told you before) and we play all the big MMORPGs together SWG PSO EQ etc... so I'm confident in my PT. We'll have:
-PLD/WAR (of coarse)
-NIN/WAR (hoping with blink could make our back up tank)
-MNK/SAM (me)
-RNG/WAR or DRG/WAR (he hasn't decided I think both would work what do you think would be better to the PT?)
-BRD/WHM (support guy)
-RDM/WHM (main healer I know it's not as good as a WHT/ but we have 2 /WHM and a PLD so we should be ok + my Chakra or he could possibly /WAR and with Phalanx be a backup tank)

Also, if it doesn't work out, I'll still have my WAR it's just MNKs get some awesome WS match that with SAM it should be cool. I also heard it's easier to manage a MNK hate because they don't do as much DMG all at once. I'm more worried about that RNG personally.

I'd still like to try a lower level MNK/SAM, but I was wondering if you use the SAM dodge ability (heart eye?), will you counter-attack 'cause your a MNK? Thanks.

I remember asking that question, I was told that it does count as a miss, so you could counter.
