I just wanted to know when you put a subjob on do you move your primary one to the sub? or just select the sub from a list? and also does the sub lose any levels once you put it on sub???
EDIT : oh and also how do your stats work when you have a sub? what do you get from the sub? are the stats combined or do you just get abilities??
Thanks in advance for the answers...

You select your sub job from a list of the jobs available to you. Sub jobs are limited to half the level of your main job; for instance, if you had 30 levels of warrior, and 20 of thief, and you took warrior as your main job, you'd only gain the effect of a maximum of 15 thief levels.
Sub jobs provide a small bonus to stats, and you get all of the traits and abilities (except for the 2-hour ability) of that job, up to the effective level of that sub job. You can only equip items that your main job can use.

Thanks! but just one more thing...when you make...say....warrior your sub and it is at level 30. then you have your main, say drk and its at lvl 50. does you warrior lvl actually reduce to 25? or do you just get the effects of a 25 warrior. Oh and also how does the lvling up work? when you have something like drk/war does just you drk lvl up? or do they both?

For that drk/war example, it's easiest to just think of your subjob being "capped" at 25. You don't lose the levels, but while it's your subjob, it's limited to only level 25. For leveling, well, you have to level your subjob seperately; only your main job gains experience.
(Topic)when your leveling up your main job gets the EXP not the sub.

You can level up as many different jobs as you want. BUT you can only use two of them at any one time.
For instance, a player might get one job up to 18 or 19, do the subjob quest, then level up that subjob to the low teens. Then they switch back to their higher level job and go to level 30. They do the quests for one of the advanced jobs (lvl 30 is required for them). After getting an advanced job, they start leveling it up next. That gives them a minimum of three jobs above level 1.
But of course at any time you can switch main jobs and subjobs. You have total control, and as others have said, there's no penalty for trying out different combinations. And playing with a low-level job can be beneficial even if it's not something you intend to take very far. Some people play unused low-level jobs when they need crystals, for instance.

kewl.
so basically u can do any job that u want infact do all of them? if combatible wit ur main one.
so the disadvantages of this is that u cant gain all abilities like weapons eTc...
if i was to do a dkm/whm would i only be able to gain half the white mage spells????:)

If you're drk/whm 40/20, you will be able to use the spells that require up to lvl 20, and so on.

If you are Drk40/Whm20 you can use all Drk's spells up to level 40. With WHM though you can only use up to level 20 since it is that level, but if it levels say up to 24 and your main to 48 you can use all those spells now...get it?
