I have a modchip installed in my system for import gaming. And well, I'm wondering, can I go online even with my mod chip installed? It works great with the online demos provided in the network adapter. If not, then I'm just going to uninstall it and install a completely new one that i can put to sleep such as the Messiah 2 or DMS3. Those chips happen to work with ffxi...

The modchip works for import games, but ffxi is a special case. It needs an hdd for it to work. The hdd in japan won't work on american or any other ps2 regardless of the modchip. The linux kit hdd can only be used for linux and nothing else. The only way you can play an import ffxi is to get a jp ps2, get a jp bb kit, and get a jp ffxi import.

Yes i do know that, I'm talking about my US modded playstation, US harddrive, and US FFXI version. Will it work? Cause if I actually win the giveaway for ffxi at the GAP site, Ill be well pretty much disappointed that i wont be able to play it.

if the game is US version then you still need mod chip?

anyway I think if your HDD and Ps2 are already US version, you should be able to install the game into your HDD no problem. and it will run off your HDD.

your mod chip shouldn't stop your HDD from working right? or would it? :/ i have no idea....

FFXI has modchip detection. It will not function on a PS2 that has a modchip installed.

You should go w/ the magic3 series, I'm a bit rusty on the newer ones, makes ure you don't end up w/ a clone like I did ><; cuz if you get a shitty modchip the US version will not work if you can't stealth the bastards. I am unfamiliar w/ the messiah series but magic seems to be the most popular, if you already installed a chip though........you better be very careful w/ the unsoldering process, if you isntalled your first chip yourself (like me ^^) you'll prolly want to have a professional do the unsoldering if your not that skilled w/ the iron. PM me if you wana link to the best sites/installers for modchips ;)

Your firs post was extreemely misleading. You told me the modchip was for import gaming so I thought it was safe to assume that you were going to import the japanese version, but now you tell me that you are talking about the english version, english hdd, and english ps2. Anyways, if you are willing to go through the trouble of unsoldering your mod chip and installing a new one just to play the game, why even bother installing a new one? Just unsolder your old one and you saved yourself a step.

Yes i do know about the magic 3 series, but its basically a clone of the messiah 2. I'm sure it acts the same way and is much cheaper than the messiah 2 also. And i cant really unsolder it and not install another chip since well, I bought import games. So without the chip i wont be able to play it. And i rather install a new one so that i wont have any more troubles in the future regarding any network detection problems. I'm going with the Messiah 2 btw. Oh yeah, sorry for having written such a misleading post. I thought i had explained enough so that all would know what position im in. So sorry.

I have a messiah 2 for importing reasons *wink* and I haven't had any issues with FFXI. I simply disable the chip every time I start up the game (disabling is done by holding down the power button while booting up the system).

Yeah, I have someone doing the uninstallation and installation of the mod chip for me. $80 for the modchip and installation. And I do play import games, I got Para Para Paradise w/ controller and Dance Summit 2001. There's also a rental store here that rents out imports.

Why would you need a chip to play NA version?

If you can put it into sleep mode then yes. There are only 3 mod chips i know that work for sure.

Bishop - I dont necessarily need a mod chip to play the NA version. It's just I have import games and I need a mod chip to play them. But I also need a nice mod chip that I can turn off so that I can play online games. And when i refer to putting it in sleep mode, it means turning off the mod chip completely.

i have a magic 3, and it says it does have a sleep mode. I didnt the legit vs copy tests and it seems to work.

Does anyone knows if I`ll have problems if I have the Novachip installed?
I`m going to buy the US FFXI... And I don`t think the novachip can be disabled...
Please Help!
