Certain monsters like Goblins and Q...things *Turtles* give gil

Do you know any other way?

If you've just started the game the best thing to do is have Signet casted on your and kill monsters your level for their crystals and other items, and then when you get a stack of 12 put it up for auction. Crystals are the only source of your income at low levels.

So, according to Maxim, unless you're in Bastok, you're screwed.

No, that's not the case. Any person of any nation who has their Signet casted on them can get crystals. However, the level of the monster you are fighting has to be easy or higher. If it's any lower (the ones that don't give you EXP) it won't drop any crystals.

Actually, Haplo is right if he's talking about beta. On Cactuar, Windurst and San'doria don't have any land at all.

In San D' Oria, I found it easy to get gil by doing the quest.
3 rabbit hide for 120 gil.
2 bat wings for 200 gil.
4 lint stone for 100 gil.
those are the 3 repeatable ones.

hmm crystals do help. but no big deal.
whenever you get items try check it's price in the auction before you dump it away. some can be a really nice income. some might not.

zinc ore for example. people I met in beta throwing them away all the time. you can sell at NPC for 4 gil but you cna sell it in AH for 100-200 each too...

Getting gil suks. Only thing you can really do is kill low level monster and hope they drop something. I started in Bacsok (can't think of correct spelling) and killed tunnel worms for hours ever so often they would drop ore and I sold them off till I got better equipment and level enough to move to stronger monster that actually droped gil.

You can also do quest. There are a few that give some nice gil.

In Sandoria, Rabbit hides, flint and bat wings fetch enough to get you by. I haven't tied selling all those crystals, because I want them for that nifty gear you can get when you trade them for higher ranks. You need those cystals to up your rank after 2, right? Its only beta, but the advanced classes NEED a certain rank in order for you to become them. If you don't care about that, then sell all those crystals away. I never thought about selling the metals on the Bazaar, because they go for so little on NPCs.

There are lots of quests all over the place. Theres just no simple repeatable "kill quests" or "delivery missions" for cash like other MMORPGs. Now, with GIL kinda tight, you wonder if its something we need. I'm sure loot for higher level monsters is balanced enough to allow people to keep themselves equiped.

So far, at lvl 8, my redmage has basically everything she can actually use, with 1500 Gil to spare. I still have a few levels before I can upgrade anything, so by then, hopefully I'll have enough. It seems your income is balanced just right, to give you the sense it actually has value and everything you earn you NEED. The low levels at least seem right.

Any input from the higher lvl guys out there?? Hows the balance in the mid and higher lvls?

The prices at the auction houses are crazy. I bought an Ash Staff in Port Windurst for 66 gil. Turns out I didn't want it anymore, so I put it in the auction house for 100 gil. Well whaddya know, the next someone actually bids 100 gil. I also got tons of gil on cheap items that sold for way more than they were worth. Sometimes I feel bad about ripping people off, but hey...look at every single item there.

Oh and I might as well throw in a good gil-acquiring tip for anyone in need in Windurst. There's a magic school in Windurst Walls, I think it's the Aurastery (I'll check that later...I just know the building, I forget what it's called). There's a teacher inside that wants you to do a quest for his school. He wants you to give him a Two-leaf Mandragora Bud and a Bird Feather. Give those to him and you get 250 gil. You can also trade him those two items as many times as you want afterwards and still get 250 gil. Both items are easy to get, I did that tons of times, half of my money is just from that quest, lol.

In case you need to know, the Bird Feather is a very common item carried by Carrion Crows. They drop it like 95% of the time. The Mandra bud is dropped by the Tiny Mandragoras...it's labeled rare, but it's not very rare at all.

Well, no enemy drops a thing. They do not drop an item or anything. And, I am not strong enough to face and orc because the kill me in 4 shots.

I think that it is only the 'intellegent' monsters that drop gil, like the ones that use weapons such as orcs and quadavs, and most other monsters just drop sellable items.

What he said = SO true. In fact, with the AH thing, you can take it to even more extreme levels, where you buy rings at the Goldsmith guild in Bastok, and sell em for WAY more right around the corner at the AH, and people just don't get it. They'll buy it at your high price, no questions asked. And they sell fast, too. I'm sure it works for other things at stores that people are just too lazy to look into.

it works even better if you stock up on things in one city and take them to another. It's hard to find certain items in each respective city and you can make a ton of gil loading up on them, taking them over to another city and unloading them for jacked up prices in the AH

Like Cat Baghnakhs in the store in Bastok that go for 1000 gil in San AH

Easiest way I have been getting my gil is from the bazaar. Setting my prices lower then the NPC price to buy, and Higher for the price you can sell to them. Items not sure on Price I just pick and see if someone buys at the price.

Gil adds up fast that way and you don't have to keep running to town for selling cause people buy from you out in the world.

Bazaars don't work nearly as good as the AH. And so you don't have to run around towns, just make another character and mail stuff. It's a lot easier.
