Where can you fish? What do you get? What do you need to fish, bait? Does bait type make a difference? Can you make any gil doing it? Does the pole break?

I'd love to hear some of your fishing adventrues.

Anywhere there is water...well i think

Fishes, rusted armro and other stuff.

you need a rod and bait

Yes, to catch different things you need different types of bait

Yes, sometimes you need different kinds of poles in different types of conditions of the water.

Yeah, also the poles range from catching small fish to catching fast fish, then l;ike catching big ones.
The bait also has to match the pole, cuz if it doesn't, it takes a real long time to catch anything.
Ex. if u have a small tiny worm, and the pole is to catch big fisf, and you are fishing in a big fish lake, the big fish really dont go after the small things. I don't know if i explained it good, but I opeu get the idea.
And pretty much Beowulf is right, hehe! Nice fishing days I hope u will have

Some in game explanation would be nice, like an NPC that gives you fishing tips. Figuring things out for yourself is one thing, but fishing seems extremely slow and boring. You just hit a button and wait for a message that says you caught a rusty boot. Whats the point? If it was a minigame that took some timing or skill, great. I did it for a few minutes and was bored stiff. Who the heck finds that enjoyable? Why couldn't there be a fish size/strength gauge or radar and a yank-o-meter to play with, so we could actually have some interaction and hit some buttons to time when to pull on the pole? Puting things to do in a game where you just sit there and wait with ZERO feedback is only for the mind numbingly stupid people;)

Was fishing in UO this simple?

Couldn't chopping down trees have a GUI where if you hit the right spot on the trunk you can cut trees down faster with combos and misses? Or how about when you're making a sword or shield, you have to watch the temp of the metal & water and adjust where to hit the sword to make a better blade. You don't have to actually craft as many items but each one is a fun minigame in itself. If crafting was like this, it might attract more people?? Thats what MMORPGs need to keep people playing, right?

Where can I get info on which bait to use with which pole, which areas only have big fish or small fish, which poles are used for big or little fish.

I think fishing is so much fun. Yesterday there were about ten of us all fishing in Windurst Port were the fishing guild store was at. We were all talking and having a good time. Then later on a guy made a fishing linkshell called Bottom Feeders and he gave it to everyone there. It was really cool...these guys are hardcore fishers. They fished all day (yes, real life). I agree about being boring, it is boring if you're alone. But if you're with other people, it is so much fun. And if I'm having a lucky day and catching a bunch of sardines, I could fish all day.

UO is even simpler. There's no bait and only one type of fishing pole to choose from. Everything else about the skill is relatively the same I think.

And I personally like simple skills such as fishing and the like. After a long day of fighting and adventuring, sometimes a little break from it all is just what the doctor ordered. ;)

If a guild is together and you're all talking anyway, then hiting the fish button once every minute or so is just a benefit of chatting in the right place, together. Besides that, hitting a button, then waiting for a message isn't what I'd call much of an effort to make an interesting minigame, nor a very fun activity. What makes it fun is who you're with as you admitted, not the actual game. As usual, developers rely on the players to make the game fun rather than pushing the envelope and actually adding GAMPLAY. Right now, fishing has no gameplay associated with it at all. Yes, there's no stress, but cmon, you wouldn't rather have some kind of interaction?? Right now the only thing is knowing which poles and bait go with which fish. Make a minigame, then make an AUto-fish option so you can veg out and chat. But actually playing it, lets you catch more.

I wish I so easily amused:) Don't people want something a bit more? If you don't ask, you don't get, and MMORPGs will never change if people are so satiated by nothing.
