Why do Thief's in XI not have the best Thief ability from the other FFs? I mean come on, that was half the reason I bothered with Diablos in VIII. I think Mug is one of the coolest FF abilities period no matter what job... so where is it?

Well, think of it this way, it doesn't have it YET.

They have to think about how to correctly implement it.

Look at it this way. The highest thief active ability is at level 45. What with the level currently being 70, I'm willing to bet in the future there will be an expansion that includes more ablilites for every job.
So like Lone Dragon said, its not out yet but edventually it should. If not, I'll be right behind you suppling pitchforks and torches to the angry mob.

Isn't Mug...Steal?

Mug is an advanced form of Steal. You deal damage AND take an item, how can you not like that?
Its like finding an onion ring in your thing of fries, I mean It just brightens your day......ok maybe that wasn't the best metphor but you get the picture....

Mug is like steal, only you attack at the same time, but it's not like you can steal anything worthwhile in this game anyway so I don't see how mug is going to make thief any better. If I ever manage to steal anything with my thief, I usually just throw it away since all it does is fill up my limited inventory space.

Actually completely agree with you there. Items you usually end up getting after stealing aren't usually worth it.. I stoped using steal for awhile now.

Sure you'll run into a few monsters that might have something to steal off them .. the steal animation is very quick and since most thiefs use daggers ( I am ) you attack very quickly afterwards. To bad its on a 5 minute timer though, so attacking AND stealing isn't nessesary.

Most of the time I usually just forget its even there since every single other Active ability the thief has is 20X better.

ALTHOUGH it would be a nice addition to an already awesome job. MUG that is

Actually, steal is very profitable at higher levels...

you'll see my point once you start stealing items worth thosands of gil...trust me, I've seen lv60+ THFs steal some nice things...

I'm 100% positive we'll see 'Mug' in the near future...

steal is already useful the way it is. in this game 1 single attack mean so little to the overall battle. use a little time to steal is not gonna slow down your attacking that much... it's not a turn base you know where if you steal you stay idle for a while...

you can steal mithril signs from beastsmen level 50+.... it's used for black smithy guild and price are around 1-2K each

beastsmen level 60+ you can steal gold sign.... price goes as high as 8K sometimes.

THF can make tons of money from that... even when they are in a levelling party...

I love steal ... so much.

I am happy that our AF has steal modifier on many pieces.

Yesterday I PTed in quicksand fighting Artican...

From about 3-4 hours, I stole 2 stacks of the mithril ore thingy... also like 2-3 stacks of darkness crystals, 3-4 1500gil worth artican shell or something like that..

1 stack of mithril ore is worth 20k in windurst AH on my server.

Thus, from about 3 hours, I got 10k exp, 40k from mithril ores, 3k from crystals, and 4-5k from the shell thingy.

10k exp, 50k gil.. from 3 hours.. what else you need ƒµ(?M?Þ?L)ƒµ

PS. while I am running through batallia hunting tigers for fangs, I always steal the silver ore from lv 25gob there.. they are 4500 per stack too ('?ž')?U

I mugged the NM scorp in Ifrit's for 1100 gil. I think I broke my mug record by about 1200%. I felt like I'd won the lottery.

seriously though, how often do you see nm's to mug?

It's still not a "worthless" skill but it's not that great either.

like kano said u get all this in addition to exp for the expense of nothing else i really don't see where theives have any room to complain

I can see plenty of room for thf's to complain. There is simply no other job that suffers from the (one bad party member can make you suck, no matter how good you are) syndrome.

Think about it. as a thief, unless everyone in your party is lined up correctly, and not moving, and paying attention at all times, not only will you not be able to control hate at all, but you won't be able to do any decent amount of dmg either. (ie, you will suck)

I have been trying to get square to make trick attack always hit and crit so that we can use it seperately. This wouldn't up our dmg output any, but It would get us out of that (one bad party member can make you suck, no matter how good you are) hellhole that square put us in when they nerfed sneak attack.

anyone else think this is a good idea? If so, send square a suggestion by going to the Service and Support>support>email support>comments and suggestions menu in playonline. Maybe if enough of us suggest this, they'll come to their senses.
