Japanese Advice for Race

According to the Japanese guide the most important stat for a Ranger is strength and therefore, if you are going to be a Ranger the best class is Elvaan followed by Humes. I know you guys always say that Elvaan rangers suck, but then why the contradiction? Any thoughts?

this is a good question, i've read in this forum that other stats are more important for rangers. Whose got the real truth?

number 1 stat for ranger is AGI. i don't know about STR.
AGI is your range weapon accuracy.

yes, jei is right,
AGL is the most important, and str is just for bows, not guns and cross-bows.
so really, Mithra, are the best RNG, followed by hume. and i think that elvaans make the worst rng, they are they have the lowest agl of all the races.
But the beautifull thing about FFXI is, any race can do any job, so you are well come to be a Elvaan rng

Elvaan is not a bad race at all for RNG. High STR makes up for the lower AGI especially when there are so many AGI and accuracy+ items so easily available (especially later levels). Sure Mithra doesn't have to worry about those but finding STR+ items is harder than finding accuracy + ones.

Yeah AGI is deffinately most important, you can't do any damage if you can't hit the target.
I'm a taru (which according to http://ccwf.cc.utexas.edu/~nhart/Status_calculator.htm has the 2nd highest AGI stat after mithra) and I have AGI+10 and I still miss LOTS, so I have no idea what it'd be like for elvaans.

I find it so funny how people just don't include galka in their best race topics. Haha the only time you see it is when they say don't be a galka mage. Ha. I just love it.

Elvaans are fine as RNGs. You sure do miss a lot in the beginning though, but if you persevere, and stick it out to level 30, you'll notice a big difference of your accuracy because...

- At lv30 you get passive ability accuracy up
- At lv28 you get to equip archer knife (or 2 of them if subbing ninja)

And as a plus, you get midareuchi (wild shoot) as a bonus attacking move!

But before lv28-30, your life as a ranger may not be that good as an Elvaan.
