The best mix i think is Monk/Red Mage because then you would have good BLK and WHT magic+Super fighting skills:cool:

even if you think a sub RDM is good. you have to know if the mp is enough.
go here to see if the mp is enough for you to have a Sub RDM.

Really? I think a BST would be the best use of a RDM at higher lvls just because it would be the most useful for them as a sub job to help solo. At high lvls, you can have a full WHT a full BLK and a full MNK DRK WAR whatever. What would make a PT choose you? Since you would be worse at all of these.
hmm... i'm a level 68 right now and never in my redmage life that i find bst to give me anything useful for solo at all.
For solo, I use /blm normally. My redmage is strongest with /blm.
secondly, rdm/thf for more gils and items drop rate.
and third, rdm/war and rdm/rng to have fun with some nice WS that RDM alone wouldn't be able to use. well this is only for fun.
for party play, I also normally use /blm with /whm occasionally.
majority of redmages use the same subjob. blm and whm. becase they are useful and best suite to what we can do

Sorry, I wanted to say I thought a BST/RDM would make the best solo, because I heard BST are the best solo job in many ways and that they can't get PT invites very often and their XP is hindered by having a Beast tamed. How often do BST get into PT I heard 90% of them solo and I figured RDM would be the best sub for them. With added STR plus healing their monsters etc... Also, isn't it like next to impossible to solo at those lvls anyway? Why would you even want to? I mean don't get me wrong I think it's awesome, but it sounds like a pain. Because you have limited magic and attack and you have to Tank for yourself. Every battle would take forever wouldn't it? I mean wouldn't you need to do your strongest attacks take a few hits and then sleep or bind the monster or something then rest then do it again? I don't know how else you could solo at such lvls? Also, in your opinion does the THF make a pretty good attacker? I mean between Sneak Attack, Deceiving Attack, and WS like Viper Bite and Dancing Edge can they do a good ammount of DMG? How bad are they nerfed as a sub? Do you think that a SAM/THF with those abilities (2H Katana instead) would be about as good as a SAM/WAR? thanks
hmm if it's the way around, bst/rdm, yea it is possible ^^; most bst i've seen go for /whm however...
and you can't heal your pet with magics. you need pet food and heal them using bst's ability.
THF is a very good attacker for party play. their abilities not only deal a lot of damage, but also ensure 100% hit and transfer hate to other members too.
So THF can control the monster to keep attacking the most defensive tank, and in some really, reall tough fight, THF can become the only main damage dealer too.
SAM... is pretty strong already on it's own IMO. SAM's strongest part is TP charging. which means they can use WS over and over...
I never try SAM/THF before so no idea on thins one
