Anyone else pissed off beyond measure cuz of that darn skull never dropping, or if it does, it gets loothed by the other ppl you're with???? Those ghouls need to be modified....they're friggin rare and their drop rate sux sssooo much...Anyways...i think ill take a break lol....i just NEED one XD!!!!!

I know people who looked for 10 days before finally getting their skull. As for me, i hunted for 5 days straight, about 10 hours a day until I found mine... it was 3:30 am (ghouls leave at 4), and I was lucky to be in a PT where no one else needed skull.. so it was really close.

If you want, you could try the Gusgen mines, but at low 20's its pretty tough, you will need a good PT and be carefull of enemies linking ><

Yeah I had it with the Valkrum dune Ghouls way to many people competing for the skull so i took a party into the shakrami maze to fight those ghouls, fought 4 of them in about a 40 minute period only item we got was a stinking bone chip >:| and those ghouls are a bit tougher plus its in the maze with scorpions nearby arg!
so where are the gusgen caves at?
The big problem is too many people on the dunes, Thing that pisses me off is the lack of consideration out there right now my PT was goin for a ghoul one team mate found and had his sword drawn on another party bastard casted a spell and ran thru the goblin camp to get to him so he drew all 3 of them a damsel fly and a sheep down in agro and for some reason they all attacked my party!!!!! :mad: Igot killed by the sheep A SHEEP!!! :mad:

Go to the gusgen mines and take the first left and viola. A well balanced party of six level 18's is plenty. Pull with cure. Take a thief. Watch out for the AE lifetap - have the casters stand back as much as possible.

Spuncan wonders how, and or why there would be people getting advanced jobs (beastmaster and ranger) before getting there skull. mybe they were just really nice and felt like helping people ... lots.
Heh, um my suggestions.
get a small pt, like 3-4 people preferably including a Thief, some sorta healer, and someone w/ provoke. Goto any of the Oasisi (places w/ trees on the map) in Valkrum and run round lookin like idiots, while stayin spread out. Then just wait 4 the spawn, dont worry bout killing things, there will be plenty o people doing that, then u'll get the Ghouls that they spent hey're time on allowing to spawn. I know this is kinda the asshole way to do it but it works decently. A note on Shakrami, and Gusgen, theyre just wastes, the drop rate is thesame but everything is much, tougher. IE: a pt I was in was payed to get this one person a skull in Gusgen (ie pass the drop) it was a well balance pt w/ so high lvl chars (4 beta), 2 yes only 2 came back to selbina alive (although the ghost right @ the entrance on our way out didnt help much :)

You might want to bring a Thief with the Treasure Hunter ability with you. I was with a group and the ghouls dropped the skull about 50% of the time. So I don't really know if that was just dumb luck or whether the Treasure Hunter ability was that good! (since a couple people in the group had been looking for the skull for a few days before I was there, then once I was there each person in the group that needed one got one)

looking for ghouls in valkurm is generally a waste of time... ghouls are just way too rare there and they take forever to show up... heck you can even form an alliance for gusgen... no need to limit it to 6 people. Go plow through the ghouls there.

Oh yeah i did this....fought over 20 ghouls i think for a friggin long time...got 2 skulls i think...-_-;; we were 15, we could barely survive, the damn dogs there give out illness, which keeps us from healing and getting mp back.....anyways, i still think valk is the best place....cuz i finally got mine yesterday XD!!!!!!! Sorru guys about not calling you, (cyber and Ixios) but my network connection when out and i couldnt log on to ffxionline, and when i found Ixios online i had already found it :p Anyways, there are so many people that tried to help me get that damn quest done that ill be hanging around the dunes for the next 2 coming weeks i think XD!!!! (well at least one lol) And maybe do my chicken quest too since im 19 and the 20's are very near :p

Now if my connection could come back today, ill search for you guys tonight ;)

P.S. oh and just another thing that kinda made me angry....its people under level 18 that cast lot on the skull when people of 18 and higher still dont have it.....i mean...let the people that can use them have it!! Aint it logical?? There's a couple of people in the 20's that dont have it yet darnit....and when i hear some lvl 16 people telling me they got all their items.....well....you know what i mean :p

So people, try to be kind and let the people who need the items most get it when you hunt for the skulls :P im sure the person would be glad to help you guys out afterwards when he finally has his subjob on :biggrin:

it's not that tough, took me and a small party of 6 about 30 minutes in gusgen to get 3 skulls for those that needed them. we were all lvl 18-19. Bring a lvl 15+ thief for drops, and go to the right path from entrance and sit in there since there's no spawns there and have someone pull out ghouls from further down the path (they're very frequent).

Also make sure you have a smaller party, cause if you get an alliance it REALLY kills the chance of dropping skulls, took like 5 hours when i first did it with a alliance of 12 in gusgen!

also i know a lvl 24 that STILL hasnt gotten his sub!:(

go to wadi near bastok and take the geyser up to the marsh flats and fight wadi hares they drop the grass i was with a party of 4 and we all got 12 pieces of grass in about 30 minutes.

Need before Greed is a debatable thing, but generally holds true! Currently Ive been PTing with parties/alliances of Lv15-22 looking for those damned subjob items. We killed some 10-15 ghouls, and an alliance of 14 left (because of death) empty handed. Im Lv 17, and have been concentrating on getting my items now rather than later, simply because Id prefer to not worry about it as Im leveling. ANyway, give Anuvii a buzz if you want a Lv 17+ WAR in your item hunting PT ^.^ (or if you just want to help). Ill send you a message, Ixios, just in case you'd like to help, but dont feel obligated ^.^

After pt'ing for two days for the subjob quest, I hit level 18, and went to Selbina to accept the quest. I found a skull in my inventory, and was extremely confused as to how I got it.

I am done leveling my SJ, so now I am ready to help parties get those drops!

Tonight, we are going back to Gusgen to get that last person his skull. Then I'm off to try and get to level 18 tonight so I can start leveling BLM.

Well I finally got my skull friday night in gusgen after weeks of trying lol. The group i was in did pretty good until one of the high level 30 peeps decided to attack a named ghost O_o Pulverized Pfeffer. some made it out alive, most of us didnt i was maybe 3 feet from the exit when it hit me for 170 hp and needless to say...... I died at least one PT member was nice enough to return and revive all of us that were pulverized lol XD

I was lucky and got my Skull last night. We were EXPing and SubJobbing at the same time, got everybody else worms and aprons(already had those), all that good stuff.

Brutux and Corwen already had gotten their SJs, Azaple already had his skull, but myself, Minami, and Kadsuki all needed them. After fighting a few ghouls, we actually got a drop! I was surprised to notice that everybody passed over their skull for me :biggrin: :biggrin: :spin: :biggrin: :biggrin: We went on for a couple more nights(hours) of hunting waiting for those bastiches to come out, but we didnt find any more, and as it was 4:30am, everybody wanted to go to bed.

So on the 6th day of searching, and 5 levels later, I'm a WAR 20 / MNK 9!

Im helping some friends get their skulls tonight, and since Im sure we'll need/have room for a few more, contact me tonight in game if you want to join.

When you reach lvl 18 you can have a sub-job. To do that you need to complete a quest which require you to find 3 items and skull is one of them and the most difficult one to find. :thumbsup:

Job and level don't matter at all, but let me remind you that you wont get any exp at all while with me. So if thats ok then we are all set. If you can bring a thf too with the increase drop rate that would be good.

Oh yeah one more thing, if you tell message me and i don't respond remember that i am out leveling and stuff too so i can't always come at the drop of a hat. And if i don't respond its probably because i didn't see your tell, where I levle there are usually tons of people around fighting too and the scroll window flies by with text so its impossible to keep up. this is going to sound like a lot of whining and complaining. sorry about this...just venting a little. :(

i too have been hunting for a skull from lvl 15-19 now. or for one whole week straight now. the thing that really bugs me, is that when i was lvl 16/17 - i would always pass a skull so the higher levels could get it. they needed it more than i did. ive passed 6 skulls. but now that i am 18/19, i lot for them, and always lose to lvl 16/17. where's the courtesy?? respect for you elders? is this because pc players are more competetive than the ps2 players? (just speculation). this is driving me mad, and is coming very close to pushing me over the edge. :mad:
ive been to gusgun as well..and came out empty handed. all of us did.
why oh why would se make this so hard? 80+ people at any given time in valkrum searching for on average 1 skull every hour i imagine. if only ghouls were more common, or dropped more often.

if i dont have it by the end of the weekend...then forget it. ill be a pure rdm for the rest of beta.

HUGE Xenogears fan. Have beeten it at least a dozen times all from fresh starts. I love the story, the characters, the mechs:cool: , and oh my God the deathblow skills were unbeleiveable. For the first time I was in an RPG that while in a battle i would watch my character and say "Dang I kick ass, and look cool doing it..."
Anyway, Ok i got you, And to Luxury and all of you others too actually, if you come with me its gonna be by need NOT lots. IF you have any problems with that speak now. It took me 10 stoopid days to get a skull. I was literally about to lose my mind and throw my ps2 into the nearest river.

Ok, heres the best place to get one. You'll need about 4 level 20's cuz you'll have to clear the area of all the leechers and gamblers first, plus the ghould that appear are pretty bada$$.

Go to the NORTHWEST oasis in valkurm, clear all the ghouls and stuff during the day and you will DEFINITELY see ghouls at night. Forget the northeast oasis too many people and not enough ghoul spawns.
