Perhaps this is a bit to ask, but I need a copy of the file "data3.cab" off of disc 3 of the beta. I have absolutely tried everything I know to do, and, regardless, it always freezes near the end of the installation of the 3rd disc.

Before you suggest, I have attempted recovering the corrupted data, copying the data onto my hard drive, using my other computer to copy the files, among other things. Currently, I am attempting to install it (again) using my re-writable drive, it has come to a complete stand still at the exact same point as it did with my main drive.

I am running on Windows XP, Dell Dimension 4550.

If you can help me with this, one way or another, I would be most grateful.

Yep, same problem here. Tried all night to fix it.

Hopefully someone with an intact .cab will put a mirror up for us, since the number of people with this problem will likely just keep growing as more people get kits.

In the meantime, I've emailed s-e and requested info on getting the disc replaced. But i'd rather not wait another two weeks.

Yes, it would be very nice if someone would do that. I have yet to call Square-Enix but the answer is obvious, and I, too, do not really want to wait for that length of time. Especially since I'm so far away from where S-E is located.

Aw crap. Dimension 4550. I hope I don't get that problem.

*crosses fingers*

If I don't have that problem, I'll see if I can help you. (Whenever I get my kit.)

try what the guy who posted here (http://ffxionline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15208) suggested first, before asking someone to send you the file x_x

<sigh>...

I wish it were that simple and stupid. Fact is I have tried it on a Hewlett Packard, Compaq, and my Dell. I have attempted to directly copy them from a command line; the file is corrupted. I've also tried to use BadCopy pro on each, it freezes right at the end of the data3.cab file. I'm asking here as a last resort to having to wait possible weeks.

Please, anyone?

What I recommend you guys to make copies of the cds before sending them back to SE that way you can still try to come up with ways to fix the problem will SE takes their sweet ass time to send you a fresh new copy.

On another note if I do happen to get my kit soon *prays* and the file is not corrupted I will be glad to help out by sending it through programs such as AIM or ill put it up on kazaa. Im not to sure that putting it up on P2P programs would be a good idea to do, but hey its just a data3.cab what the hell is anyone else going to do with the file.

Thanks solidsnake, if I can actually get a working copy of the Data3.cab file I will put it up on Kazaa or start sending it to people somehow. I downloaded a copy of disc three off of mIRC and it turned out to be the contents of the second disc. No luck at all I tell you.

Hey are you absolutely positive that the data3.cab file is corrupted? Try cleaning disk 3 then running the install again or you can try to move the file ALONE to the destop, if the move is alowed then the file is not actually corrupted but the cd is having problems reading. It's worth a try what have you got to lose?

I've tried EVERYTHING. The data3.cab file is definitely corrupted. I have tried it on four different computers, each has a different hard drive, I cleaned it really nice and shiny like, tried to repair it... I can go on and on, I've had it for almost two days now and I've been tampering with it on and off. I'm going to mail it out to Square tomorrow. I've already put every file I can from that disc onto my computer so all I need is data3.cab. I realize it's a large file but putting it up on Kazaa isn't that much to ask. Besides, it would help more people then just me.

Have you tried to copy the file through th MS-DOS (remember it copies even damaged files without hesitating)?

Yessir I have. I've tried using xcopy in a command prompt on every computer. After about a half an hour of trying to copy the file it brings up an error message. If this disc isn't ruined then both of my computers and the two that are my friends must have something seriously wrong with them.

Disregard that last post its probably really not worth it copying a damaged file to the HDD. Anyways tomorrow ill ask one of the guys at the compputer help desk about this at my firm. Maybe I can get some answers their.

Wow. I did exactly what SolarSword said to do, wipe the top and bottem with a cloth then disc 3 worked. Now I can play the game. The CDs are just real low quality.
