Where do I get the item needed to trade w/ stones?

The Mhaura NPC doesn't sell it.. what do I kill or what quest needs to be fulfilled in order to get the paper?

the item can be made by tanning skill. I don't know if there's NPC selling it or not, but try check out the tanner's guild (is it in windurst?)
if the guild doesn't sell it then i really got no idea how to get it apart from waiting for other players to make it

What is the item called? And can an apprentice tanner make it? If so, what are the ingredients?

In Japanese the item is called 羊皮紙. This translates loosely as sheepskin sheets. It should be on sale in Mhaura - have you tried everywhere? It may be the Warehouse that sells it.

To make it, you will need at least lv31 in Tanning. You mix it with a dark crystal and the ingredients are 大羊のなめし革 (giant sheep treated leather), ロランベリー (rolanberry). Just 1 of each.

If you are playing the US beta and if you can't find in Mhaura, I would say you are hosed. I'm assuming noone on the beta will have tanning anywhere near lv31 yet.

I am in the beta test and have checked Mhaura only. I asked some players in San D'Oria to check the tanner shops for a "parchment" and they didn't see anything resembling paper. I'll check today.

But yeah, the NPC in Mhaura isn't selling it.

yep they changed the bard quest some time ... not sure when... but now someone must make the paper for you... you can no longer buy the paper. Talk about a profit potential possibility for the first tanning person with that skill in beta lol.

i've seen at least 3 bards in game already, all i can say save your money if you don't have "buttlicking" connections with higher lvls with skills who would do paper for cheap. As long as i play i haven't seen nice people yet, everyone want just use you for their moment.
