Really now do people actually use both types of magic and attack? i think this race is futile( not sure wut futile means but sounds good :) ) I mean wuts the point of being able to get decent amount of dmg with weaps when u would jus use black magic. Magic more sence to main Sam and sub wmg that way u atack and cure. this job makes no sence to me wut so ever. ugg...sigh....:confused:

It's about versatility, I'd say. I'm considering going Red Mage (once I get my beta kit) because it would give me options. They seem to be decent fighters, so I could get up close and duke it out with monsters. If I need to heal myself, I could cast White Magic. Also, if I need to take a step back or even lure a monster, I could dish out some black magic.

It's personal prefrence, really. Depends on your style of play and what you enjoy. ^_-

Red mages also get the benefit of being the "smart one".

Red Mages are masters of strengthing and weakining magic. They also have convert which is Red Mage only spell. If you check the Red Mage Hints and Tips thread, Red Mage gets some BLM spells a WHM would get with a BLM sub same with BLM/WHM. And you're the only mage that is a decent fighter out of all the mages which is nice. You have a lot of subs to raise BLM,WHM,SUM,THF, and WAR :sweat:. Though I also plan to raise Ranger to a high level so WAR will have more of a benefit with that.

Soul, either you have not read enough about the red mage in this section , played a red mage in any other FF game, or the class just isnt for you ...

Its all about options with this class
not a easy class nor very hard ,just a little of both
If you have any specific red mage questions ,

As a Red Mage you're open to nearly all types of tasks that need to be done in PTs, at the cost of not being good at any of them. You can help the White Mage with healing while attacking the monsters with the tankers and occasionally perform Magic Bursts with the Black Mage, all at the same time while you weaken the monsters with status affecting spells.

Of course, you'll never have as much MP as a WHM, your Magic Bursts won't even come close to comparing with a BLM, and you'll miss quite often and won't do as much damage as the tankers, so in the end you become a supporting job, helping out all the other people.
