Dragoons aren't wearing heavy armor?

I recently learned that dragoons cannot wear heavy armor. This has me greatly upset. The whole idea of a dragoon is a heavily armored mad man ripping people apart with a big pointy stick from the back of a dragon (I'm sure we will be able to ride dragons eventually). I wouldn't be so upset if they made dragoons wearing armor at least look plateish.

Anyone remember back in FFT? Lancers wore Heavy Armor. FFIV? Kain wore Heavy Armor. FFIX? Freya wore Heavy Armor. I'm just failing to see Square's logic on this one.

Yeah, well, that's how it goes in this game *shrugs* Nothing we can do about it.

The point of dragoons in FFXI is to be a jumping maniac that gains hate, shakes it off, and does lots of damage while being accompanied by their wyvern pet. That's good enough for me.

While it would have been nice to wear heavy armor, I guess that's just not their bag right now. And I don't have to worry any more, because come the 16th AF will be released, and that will be my new style <^^>

P.S. Unless I missed somthing, I don't remember any instance where dragoons have rode upon dragons. The concept behind them is that they wear dragon-looking armor in order to trick a dragon into thinking it's one of them, as they are dragon-slayers by nature. Hence all the abilities that up the defence against dragons and attack against dragons.

Actually if you look at Lancers in FFT their upper bodies have some dragon shaped armor but their lower bodies are all leather and cloth. I mean how do you expect a Dragoon to get amazing height in a jump when they are wearing full plate? Also Freya wore light armor as well, now FF3/4/5 had Dragoons in what appeared to be heavy armor, but in the artwork you could see it was only bits and pieces held together by leather and straps.

So to me it makes sense for them to not wear full plate, they are the spear wielding rabbits of the game, they need to hop about. :biggrin:

Out of the fantasy world, Dragoons are warriors trained to adept at fighting on foot and mounted on horses...

Not to mention dragoon's being able to wear heavy armor would probably make them too good. They already do some of the most damage in the game.

Dragoons not able to wear heavy is a good thing. Because:

- it doesn't make sense to jump high with heavy weight;
- if you like tanking, there is Paladin;
- soloing in FFXI is just plain slow and boring;
- no one wants Dragoon to be mediocre or over-godly (Godly = #1 target of Square's nerfing knife).
