I need an opinion on how this combo might work....
I'm close to getting my subjob and i can't decide on what it could be. .. it's a tossup between RDM, WAR and THF
Post what you think would be best and how well RDM subs for a Monk. I think having some magic would be helpful...

/WAR is overrated. That or it needs to get nerfed badly. Almost everyone will tell you to go /WAR.
/RDM will give you spells, but since your main is MNK (which you get 0mana from), you won't have very much MP at all.
/WAR will give you more HP, more attack power, and taunt. Taunt could kill you as a monk main, though. Monks have low defense.
/THF will help you when looking for money. That's normally what it is used for. /WAR will give you more HP, attack, and the taunt ability. Not recommended for regular use.
Having magic is useful, but as a sub job while your main is a melee, you don't have much mana. Even /BLM or /WHM, which give you more mana than /RDM lack enough mana to do sufficient work.
If you are going to sub a mage, in my opinion, you should go with /WHM. Because you'll be able to a last minute heal when the WHM is out of mana and the WAR is almost dead. That's when your fellow redmage comes in, though. So /any mage is not really useful. Just like /any melee for any mage isn't useful...
Now, I stated some of the pro's/con's, but don't strive to be the best. Be what you want to do. Be unique. Don't always be the best class. Don't always go /WAR. Be what you want. Have fun. It's what the game is about. Group with some buddies, and they should accept you because you are their friend. However, you asked how those combos might work, so I gave you an answer.
ps -- The times you wish FFOzone.com didn't close....

wow nice reply there :)
I;m getting REALLY bored of just.. sitting there while i attack an enemy and i need some magic 'cause it looks fun :).. i don't really want to start from lvl 1 as a BLM or WHM so i think i'll try Monk/RDM or RDM/Monk
P.S. I wish FFozone didn't close.. either.. lots of fun there.. (usually)

Me personally am going either monk/thief or the reverse of thief/monk. Im not sure which Ill like more as a main job, so Ill have to try them both in beta. I just thik their abilities mesh well together, and I dont plan on having /war because I dont plan on being a meatshield. I want to be a hard fast hitting damage dealer :)

I personally also like this combination. Monk gives a little hp boost, even though their defense isn't that good. However if you sub with theif you can dodge a lot more.

A monk or a theif should not be getting hit. If they do the tank is not doing their job. Decieve attack for theif works well, and gives the theif 0 hate, and giving the tank more.
If combat is boring, get into a group, maybe that will help. And dodge attacks manually. I found manually dodging against MOST monsters more effective than the dodge skill at earlier levels. Possibly even at higher levels, as well.
If you are bored during combat, I suggest that you use WS more. Get a Renkei going (you do the second, use the 'combo' WS). Adventure to new areas. Take on monsters that you can barely handle, everyone will step up to the monster and contribute to the kill.
There is no way you can be bored or should be bored in a MMORPG.
PS -- what I miss most about ffozone was the RPing, and I have gotten into another group, although more along the DnD rules. It's a trade-off, and a nice change.

ha ha ha ha, very funny. mmorpgs are the most boring games there are. they can be the most fun, but yes, they get very very boring.

Hate to burst your bubble, but you can't MANUALLY dodge an attack and expect the mob not to hit you just because you moved around. Monsters can still hit you from a far even if they are using grapple weapons. (kinda chessy really)
Don't know about monks not having good defense.. They aren't Dark knights. They rank up there in defense as much as a warrior does and they make perfect tanks but most people would prefer the better ones (paladin).
Warrior and theif is by far the best subs a monk can currently have right now.

Dude do MNK/RDM don't care what these idiots say its da bomb.
I'm a level 21 monk right now with a WAR sub and it blows. and just to set the record straight you will be the biggest DEF pansy in your group next to mages. I get so much friggin dammage to me its ridiculous. I always need too have monsters provoked off me, and i am always the last to provoke. But dang i beat the hell outta the others in giving dammage to monsters. So anyway if you got RDM as sub it won't make you suffer in stats since they are battle mages after all and you will get cure. One cure can be the difference between life or death. and it speeds up recovery time after a battle since mp heals quicker. DOn't do WHM you take a bitch slap in stats.
Good luck:thumbsup:

lvl 21 only means you sub can only get to 10.. you can't compare a whole class as a sub at lvl 10. You forgot to mention about warriors passives and actives they get as they get higher. Does double attack ring a bell? Its a warrior attack you get if your lvl 50 with mnk.
As far as mnk subbing mages is only good if you play with a bunch of friends or soloing.. normal pt's won't really accept it cause you have to sit to refill your mp if you do decide to cast. You lose 10% tp for every single tic of hp/mp you gain from sitting. Lets say you have 110% TP and you sit to refill your life or mp back. It takes 12 individual ticks (refilling 6-12 hp/mp) to get back to full... there goes your all your TP.
Of course MagicPatrick can do whatever he seems fit.. hes the one going to be paying the money to play. Im just giving him a little heads up on what to expect later down the road.
Peoplecallmejer, don't call people idiots cause they've experience it first hand.

Otaku chill....... its a game, k? I was merely saying its nice to be able to cast heal on yourself. And just to touch on double attack, there won't be many in Beta that even get to 50 so don't worry abou that. Not calling anyone idiots to be mean saying it in a funny way a friend would:thumbsup:
Man all you forum guys are anal, you all read into everything i say;)

When a MNK/RDM uses an En spell, does it affect both his punches and his kick?
