Keyboards?

Anyone know if keyboards are optional or just required to play ffxi?

You basically need them for chatting. I just bought a PS2 Sharkboard...and I guess it works with it... its a really good keyboard though

It is possible to chat without a keyboard, but anyone who has played a console MMORPG knows it's just better to get one unless you don't plan on saying much anyway.

Yeah and when you're struggling to type "HELP!" Because a train of monsters are running behind you, you'll wish you had that keyboard.;)

Just get a keyboard..they are cheap. $20 for a sharkboard, any USB keyboard works, check your computer, it might be a USB one.
Get a cheap keyboard on clearance, if it is not a USB one, goto Radio Shack and get an adapter for $5.
They work on a lot of other games also. I used it in EQoA Beta 2 & 3, SOCOM, Madden 2003, and another game I am Beta testing now.
Basically, all the games I have on line at this point.
