In 1999 when Square held their "Square Millenium" conference in Japan, they made what was probably their biggest Final Fantasy announcement ever. 3 new Final Fantasy games were in development: Final Fantasy IX, the last FF game for the Playstation; Final Fantasy X, the first for the Playstation 2; and Final Fantasy XI, the groundbreaking entrance of Final Fantasy into the online gaming world. :o

This really took me by suprise, because before this I had never, ever had any idea about having an online FF. Did you guys ever think there would be one, or did it also hit you by suprise?

It suprised me, i didn't even think about square making an online version of final fantasy. But i guessed they wanted to try something new. But im glad that ffxi is an online game.

Well I live in Europe and we get every thing last so it took me by surprise, but I was not happy considering I have to wait....
The only reason we get every thing last is because of the Germans, French, Italian and Spanish... I am so angry they want every thing translated in every game uhhh :o

I was shocked, and a little scared. I hadn't played an online game before, and Squares financial situation hasn't been all that spectacular recently. And the fact that every licsense or brand name has thier own online entity doesn't bode well either. I've yet to play this game, but I think Final Fantasy is one of the online games that will survive. I mean, there aren't going to be that many games that will be successful, there can't be. No one is going to pay for a subscription to 4 games. Everyone will play one, or maybe two, leaveing the rest out in the rain.

If you live in England just import it from the US lol, whats the big Idea? Blaming the Italian, Spanish, German, and whatever countries just so they can actually read the game? Oh, and how about us Americans? I think they should just keep the game in Japaneese, just so we can get it faster. (Well, thats what most of us are resorting to :( )

now playing the beta--the scope of the game surprised me

it's literally the first rpg on a multi-level scale

it has a fully integrated and complete storyline

even cutscenes--tons of cutscenes..

it's an rpg in a mmorpg setting and it's working

a nice grand plan by square.. and executed very nicely

I was soooooooooo happy when I first heard about it, then I was afraid because it wasnt a great success in Japan when it came out but hey, ITS COMING HERE!!!! :handsdown

Well rally, the first time i thought about having an online final fantasy game was wayyy back when PSO was first released on dreamcast. Back then, i had no idea PS2 was gonna be able to go online, so i didnt know how it would work, I just kinda...imagined it.

I don't live in England I live in Norway (man look at my name, of course I am Norwegian  ). And I am not blaming the Italian, Spanish, German, etc. I just pointed out that it is because of the translation it takes longer time. And to be honest Germans do speak English quit good so I don't see why they want it translated. :o

(A good example that proves I am right is Suikoden 3 which will not come to Europe because Konami don't want to pay for the translation:o)

I had been dreaming about an online Final Fantasy ever since I had laid my hands on 6 (US 3).

6 was the first game in the series that let you pick who was in your party,(at any time, not like in 1 where you got stuck with who you picked for the rest of the game) what magic you wanted to learn, a branching story line (Via the scenario thing) and the coolest character designs ever. Who can beat a young esper girl that can also weild a sword?

While I was playing it, I thought it would be so great to have an online version where you could play with other people, because you could play with two people in 6 if you wanted to, you could pick which characters you wanted to control. (Only during battles though.)

So I have been waiting for this game for a very very long time. With Squaresofts great detailed graphics, story, music, and characters, how could anyone choose any other MMORPG over it?

*Cries* I love you Squaresoft!!:handsdown

Yes, I wanted a Final Fantasy online before it was announced. Due to the fact its a fun series and be able to share it with others would be much better.
I always wanted to play the games with 2 or more players for sure.
