I've decided that I'm going to import FFXI as soon as I get my next paycheck. I'm running with a Geforce 3 atm, and I know its good enough to run the game, but I'd like to have it look better. Right now I'm strongly leaning to a Geforce FX 5200, but the 5800 also comes out on July 4th, so that is a viable option as well. If anyone can advise me on this subject it'd be greatly appreciated, and please God, keep the ATI/NVidia fanboyship to a minimum. :spin:

Stay away from the 5800. It's loud and overheats. Go with either a 5600 or 5900.

if you're only looking at geforce, go with the 5900. 'tis good

The 5900 is brand new and just came out. For 500 bucks, you too can have it.

*gak choke cough*

It's an impressive card no doubt, but thats alot to drop on something like that. Granted I've got the money, but would it really be worth it on something like that? When I could just go with a $170 Geforce FX 5200?

Edit: BTW I LOVE your sig

I am getting an Asylum Geforce FX5600 and I was curious how compadible it is with ffxi, the whole reasion im geting it is for FFXI.
What is it's equivalent in radeon? is it good? I am paying 120$ for it brand new, I found a killer deal, any thoughts?

Personally, I'd go with a PNY Verto, rather than a BFG Asylum. Just my preference though.

Personally I would stay away from the FX line except for the 5900 for $400(128 vers.). That said, if you dont want to pay an exuberant amount of money, go with the GForce4ti4600(its better than the ti4800). If you will accept Radeons a 9700 standard can be baught for $200(it will surpass a FX5600 any day). I have heard bad things about all FX cards except the 5900, and bad things about the radeons except the 9700 and up.

Tell me how you like the card Celestial after you get it, I was actually gonna see about going with that card. Who are you buying from? Are you going with the ATI made version or a 3rd party? What Motherboard do you have?

9700 $215
9700pro $239
9800pro $376
(prices from Googlegear.com for the ATI made Radeons)

 When he asked about "score" I'm sure he meant score on the ffxi benchmark...

I personally would stay away from the FX series. I've seen a comp with it. Its quite loud. about twice as loud as the previous series. of course if you dont mind the fan noise then the FX series is a good line of vid cards to go with. though I do prefer the better preformance that the radeon series offers.

Umm only the FX 5600 & 5800 are loud. 5200 & 5900 are no louder than a Radeon or Geforce Ti vidcard...

Don't know wtf nVidia was think when they released the 5600 & 5800
