/WAR to raise your attack power.

Don't even play as a Red Mage mage if you don't plan on casting magic, and to cast more magic you need more MP to help. If you want to attack but have some magic be a Paladin or a Dark Knight, or Bard because you can get away with not having a mage subjob because you don't use MP.

I am currently doing the dark knight quest
I want to see what dark magic is like for myself
I suggest follow a track knida like this
1)dont let any one tell you what or how to play...
2)Follow a redmage track to 18
3)get sj warrior raise your WS so you will be good at melee I suggest raising ws to 75 as a warrior to get the good weapon skills in 1 Hand.
4)when red mage reaches 30 do the dark knight sub job
5) leave redmage for awhile
6) level up dark knight as main to 32+ and war as sj for PT purposes.
Go back to redmage and then you will have sj as dark knight at good power and you will not have to keep switching jobs back and forth.
1-32 happens fairly quickly
But My rule about suggestions are...
Thats all they are........suggestions...!!
Looks good though
PS : 1 handed sword over twohanded okay.
but as a dark raise all the ws you can .

Thanks tazirai, i do know they're all suggestions and that's how a treat them. I was actually thinking of becoming a dragoon for my advanced class, since i'm a rather unorthodox rpg player, by the way i have a dumb question, what does ws mean?

WS = Weapon Skill... each weapon type has individual levels, and each job has higher levels for each type of weapon because they're good at them.
What she meant was while training WAR, use a 1H(Handed) sword so you can train your 1H skills, then when you switch to RDM your skills will be high enough to use higher Weapon Skills...
My suggestion... try to fit jobs that go together... you won't get too far being a DRG/RDM forever.

yeah i know it will be hard but where's the fun if i take the easy way? besides if i really can't hand it i can always change my job.

I think the game will be challenging enough without artificially making things difficult for yourself.
Generally speaking, there a reason why odd/rare combinations in MMORPG are odd/rare... It's because they're less effective then other classes. For example, If you want to make a red mage/dragoon, then go ahead, I won't try to stop you. But you should be aware that at 65th level, you'll have the melee skills of a level 32 character (translation: You won't be hitting the broad sides of barns, nor will you have access to the "good" weapon skills), and you'll have 25-35% less MP then a "typical" Rdm/Whm or Rdm/Blm... so your net trade from the combo is a loss of useful MP and recovery/destructive skill for the gain of a crappy melee skill.
At least with, say, warrior, you can use a one handed weapon sword and augment your Rdm's decent, but not great, weapon skill.

As Atma said, you're hurting yourself with that combo, which is fine, but if you plan to join PT's with that you're hurting the PT, which isn't fine. All I'm saying is, yes the game is hard enough already, you could have another plan to challenge yourself like training 5 jobs to 65 or something. The PT will probably ask you to change your sub-job, and then all you will have is an under-leveled job that won't help much, so you're put back in the same place you started, hurting the PT which isn't good. And what exactly do you mean as taking Dragoon as your advanced job? You don't have to have an advanced job and you do't have three jobs ex: Dragoon/red mage/warrior. So what do you mean Dragoon/Red Mage or Red Mage/Dragoon?
