trying to get a little understanding of the way FFXI works, I have been reviewing the stat calculator over and over again. I understand that a subjob is 1/2 of its actual stats and that the main job is 100% actual stats.

When coming to your total HP, MP, MND, etc. do you add what the stats for level in mainjob plus 1/2 actual level of subjob stats to come up with characters HP, MP, MND, etc. ?
i.e. Elvaan lvl 1 SMN has 26HP, this is mainjob. I have a lvl46 RDM,so level is cut in half if I use as sub, making it lvl23 which has 342HP. So then the total HP would be 26+342=368, correct?

off the subject, but can multiple guilds be joined? Carpenter would be good for a mage, so that I could make my own weapons right, but I would like to be able to make potions as well...

sub job cap at "half your main job"

so if you have a 46RDM, 1SMN and 10WAR for example. when you switch job around you'll look like this
46RDM/1SMN
46RDM/10WAR :: as you see, your SMN and WAR are not going over the cap (which is 46/2=23) so they stay the way they are
10WAR/5RDM (cap is now 5)
10WAR/1SMN (again, SMN level 1 doesn't go over the cap)
1SMN/1RDM
1SMN/1WAR

the real level won't be redused. when you use 1SMN/1RDM, your real RDM level is still 46. you'll be 46 again if you switch main job back to RDM.

BTW Jei, started reading your journals. Makes the Redmage job seem even better. What is the best sub for RDM? You seem to be somewhat of an inspiration to several upincoming RDM's.

normally i use /blm for everyday PT. /whm for tough battles or some boss fights. and /thf for money hunt.

i don't use other job as sub for my RDM except for fun or some special purpose ... such as /war when i need to tank or /rng when im searching for monsters

yea you can join as many guild as you like. training each guild will require quite a lot of money tho.
im not a guild expert so can't really comment about it. I only do a little fishing and cooking.

Yes u can join multiple guilds. i am currently working on carpenter and blacksmith. :biggrin: so yes u can do ur little carpenter and alchemist(or whatever makes potions :p )
