When you sell something in the Auction house it calculates a transaction fee and then a box comes up for gil. is that box to set your asking price or to pay the transaction fee?
Also, when I go to price history I see a date..then a name an arrow pointing to another name then a price, there are several lines of this. Could somoen explain this to me? Is this bidding on one item? is it bids on other items? I am just confused as to how it all works.

I have played FFXI so far for 2 hours at a friend's house. Here's what I can answer:
your first question.
Simple answer: If someone bids at LEAST that much, they automatically get it. If they don't, it's just like an auction.
For example: You put 15k gil for xxx dagger. Someone bids 5k gil for your xxx dagger. Someone bids 7k, another 9k. Eventually, the auction will close when your asking price is met, or higher. So, if someone bids 19k, you get 19k for xxx dagger, even though your asking price was only 15k.
Hope I cleared that up and I got it right... :biggrin:

ok, that clears some things up. I still don't under stand the Price History Screen at all though. It looks something like this:
06/26 Signpost -> (Xero) 50 gil
06/26 Kal -> Yoko 350 gil
06/26 Prox -> Grenn 70 gil
that is repeated many times. What does all that mean? I know the date is the time of the bid, and the gil is the amount bid (i think) but what is with the names and arrows?

Okay, since I use the AH alot i'll try to explain. You sell items at a certain price and then when it's done you check the price history ^^ what everyone else has bidded on you sell for around those prices. So like above you would want to sell your item/s for around 50 to 250 Gil. Same thing if your buying except you go for the highest price.

Ok I think I understand you. So in Price history that is just the history of previous sales? so the "Signpost -> John Doe" is just one of the sales, saying that I sold to you? If that is how it works thanks for the explanation, that cleared it up for me.

Well, i'm not to sure about that...never really checked an item or items i've sold at the Auction House before...maybe I should -_-. It probably does do that i've seen my friends names on the list before.

Yep, that is exactly how it works. It says "So & So ---> So & So for 500" meens The first person sold to the second person that item for that much. So, like John Doe III said, you should look to sell you items somewhere inbetween what the others have sold for.

thanks guys for the info.
I thought that when the screen come up to put in an amount that was to pay for the transaction fee so the first three things I sold someone could have paid 1 gil for, lol

lol, I did the same thing the first time. I thought that was for the transaction fee too. I sold something that was going for 1,000 normally and I sold it for only 100 (I only put 2 gil in, but someone bid 100 and got it), I felt like I got ripped off....I guess i did, oh well.

Anytime Signpost but make sure you sell for the right price not higher :P or I think it will take a longgg time to sell if at all. And one more piece of advice dont sell items at the Auction House in one country (Bastok) then try to remove from another (San or Wind) becuase it doesn't work to well...

I still don't fully understand the AH. This really helped with the price history thing, but what I'm still not sure of is how you're supposed to know what the price set for an item is. I'm guessing it's a kind of blind auction where the asking price isn't shown, but the first person to bid the asking price or higher recieves the item.
Then other thing I need to clear up is in the listings. Like when you look for a sword and it says something like:
Onion Sword
Sapara
Bronze Sword [2]
A few questions come to mind.
1. What is the number in the brackets representing (I'm guessing the number of that item up for sale)?
2. Why are some items colored yellow or whatever the color is (I'm guessing that's what I'm selling)?
3.Why is it that when I see an item I'd like to get, the only option I can choose is Price History? The other two are greyed out. Why the hell can't I bid? Is it just keeping it up there a little longer so people can see how much it ran for?

Okay, the first one i'm not to sure (Haven't figured that out myself yet) but the second question when they are highlighted in yellow it means the item is sold and you can go to your Mog House to pick up the money (Just click the item for it to unlist from the AH). Well maybe you aren't a certain level nor certain job to use that weapon I get that all the time so I just go onto another weapon or armor.....Hope that helps alittle.

Genrou, if the menu for placing your bid is gray, then that means there aren't any items in stock. You can tell if the item is being auctioned off or not because the number to the right of the item's name is how many there are.
And, I wish I could answer your second question but I was completely oblivious to the fact that the list was actually color coded. I didn't even know that the text was in more than one color until you mentioned it right now. Being colorblind sure makes life interesting (and not interesting simultaneously ; ;).

ive also got a couple of questions that i need to ask about the AH.
1. how much is the max number of items that you can sell in the auction house? if there is a max.
2. If know one bids on something you put in the AH , does it stay there until someone does, or does it return to you eventually?
3. when you are trying to sell something in the AH and a red message appears, does that mean you've reached your max?
4. when you put something in the auction house, is it gonna still be in your items list afterwards?

1. Well you can only have six items in the Auction House becuase of your Mog House that can only give you six if you sell something.
2. If you are selling something? If so, i've had this happen it just returns to you eventually or you can take it out.
3. Yes, it usually does make sure you check how many items you have already in the Auction House.
4. ......If you take the item from your inventory and put it in the Auction House then no it wont be. But it will be in your listed items in the AH if that's what your saying.

1. Actually the max items you can put in the AH at one time is 7
2. I think the dead line for your items to sell is 5 days. But if your items havent sold within 3days check them and make sure the price of the item didnt drop. If it did, take the item out of the ah and put it back in but this time with the lowered price or your items will never sell.

I can't verify this right now (at work) but I am almost positive that you can have 7 items and they stay up for auction for 9 days, if not sold within 9 days they are returned to your inventory or Mog House (not sure which). Btw this is relative to the beta version, though I doubt they would have changed it from the Jap. version

For the AH, the items are removed after 3 days realtime, I forget the gametime conversion. My brain is telling me 9 months for gametime but that could be wrong...

If your talking about taking out the items your selling go to the third option down in the main menu (AH) and click on the item you want to remove (If the item already sold then you can just click it and it will remove) but if you want to take an item out just click it then a menu comes up second option then the left option.
