I have done some searching on macros but because everyone was importing all the explanations and everything are in japanese and I can't read them. I see stuff like:
/ja (something in Japanese) <t>
/wait 20
/ja (something in Japanese)
/wait 15
I have no idea what any of that means. Could someone please explain the wait part and how the macros work. Also I assume that <t> is a command for target, could you also list any other commands such as that , that exist.
Thank you to anyone that can answer.

.....Well are you requesting a macro or something?

not requesting a specific macro, I am just trying to understand how they work and what commands can be used within them so that I may create my own.

Those are ones I often use in my macros^^
<me> : yourself. You have to use this after job ability, like /ja taunt <me>
<tp> : show you how much your tp is. it'll show up like 70%.
<t> : target
<pos>: position. I usually use this to show where monster is when i find one.
<st>: sub target. this and <lastst> are useful for cure macro.
<mp>: show you your mp. use this to tell your teammate if you can go for next battle or you wanna rest for a bit.
<mpp>: show you the percentage of your mp you have
<bt>: battle target. Useful for black magic macro. Using this will avoid mistargetting monster.

thanks for that list. <st> is sub-target right? what is a sub-target? could you give me a simple macro using it?
I'm not sure how to use <st> but for my cure macros I use <p1> So my macro looks like this
/ma Cure <p1>
/ma: tells the game a magic spell is being used
<p1>: party member one, This will automatically target the first member in your PT. So logically there are also <p2>'s and <p3>'s, etc.
and FYI:
/ws is also a macro used for macroing your weapon skills
/ja is used to macro your job abilities like taunt
/ma is used to macro your magic spells
And the first blank of a macro is used to name the macro, 2nd is used to type the cammand in (like this: /ma Cure <me>), the rest of the lines can be used to spice your macro up with adding text every time a macro is used. And for /wait commands. So this could be a whole macro...
/ja Taunt <t>
/p Get over here <t>
/wait 5
/p 10 seconds till taunt recharge
/wait 10
/p 5 seconds till taunt recharge
/wait 15
/p Taunt is ready!!!
Thought i might explain everything to you since you said you didnt know anything about macros ;)
Sorry if you already knew all this

Doesn't Cure have to be in Kanji though?

Thank you Kon. No I didnt' know any of that. That was a great explantion.
John Doe III I am sure it needs to be in Kanji for the import version but I wanted it explained for the english/beta version.

what exactly/inexactly are macros? I have some RPG experience, just no MMORPG experience.

Great explanation Kon.....Square should hire you to make better manuals. Macros are one of the most important parts of a MMORPG for communication and speed. They didn't put anything about macros in the manual.
Was causing all sorts of problems going through abilities to get "Provoke" off in time to save a poor healer :P
Now I'll be much better at my job (and not mistakingly waste a 2 hour "Mighty Strike") of taunting/tanking.

I agree susano, they should have explained things like macors or the auction house a little better, I had no clue how those worked or to the extent you can use them till I asked on here.

StarvingArtist deserves some of that praise also for explaining combo macros.

I use these macros alot when I need to search for PT members
For example:
/sea all inv whm 12-13
This will search for white mages in all areas who are lv 12-13 and are looking for invites.
To break this up,
/sea - search
all - all areas
inv - players who want to be invited to PTs
whm - job. war for warrior, blm for blackmage etc
12-13 - level range
You can create your own search criteria by removing and adding these criterion.
all these things are explained in the manual (the JP version)
im sure if they are in JP version manual then the USA version manual should also explain them...

It may be in the official release's manual, but the beta manual is less than adequate. It tries to compile the manual for PlayOnline, Tetra Master, and FFxi all in one book. FFxi gets less than 20 pages.....none of which even mention macros :P
This thread is the most comprehensive english macro explanation I've seen so far. Thanks to all who have contributed :P
I'm gonna be busy when I get home making all my new macros :)

Got my taunt working today:
/ja Provoke <t>
/party <t> has been taunted!
/wait 15
/wait 15
/party Taunt is Ready!
Had to do two 15 waits cause 30 seemed not to work.
I can't seem to get a weapon ability macro going though.
I use an axe (one hand) and I'm trying to macro "Raging Axe", but it keeps giving me an error.
/ws Raging Axe <t>
This gives me the error.....
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I may have put a group message.
Should the command be the first line?
