Wow... I haven't updated in so long. :-\ This journal brings back memories. Even if it's very short, it makes me happy and sad at the same time.

Re: Corwynn-Red Mage: A Beginning
Yeah, so I haven't updated this in... since I started the game. Well, here's a small update. Look how far I've come xD

-------------

So, a couple days ago I joined a few linkmates and decided to hit Oztroja for a possible chance at a judgement key, and to just hang out with some friends. I'unno how long we were there for, but the drop rate on that key is ridiculous.. bleh. Anyway, it's used to finish windy 6-2 (which I still need to do -_-, but it involves getting the passwords in Oztroja >.<).

Yesterday I decided to hang out with my other linkshell, an HNM shell called SpirallingDescent (it's just starting up, but has already killed kirin). We were going to kill the NM for rostrum pumps in Attohwa chasm, but not enough members popped up. Instead, we started beating on cave antilons for HQ jaws (needed to spawn the NM in question) and corses for the hell of it.

While beating up on said mobs, I got my first weapon skill level past 200. I was pretty excited. /shrug

Re: Corwynn-Red Mage: A Beginning
I pretty much just levelled after that, and unlocked Dragoon. Today I levelled it to 6, and I'm spurred on to level it because of:

This sexy dragoon I was partying with the other day

So this is my n00b Dragoon at the moment:

Anyways.. Hope you enjoyed, I guess.

Re: Corwynn-Red Mage: A Beginning
So I was looking for stuff to do when my friend Torisbane /tells me "Hey, you know your Ranger you levelled for promies and ENMs?" Me: uh, Yeah. Him: "You free?" me: YES!

Now, normally.. I wouldn't be so excited to go, but I really do enjoy the promyvion zones. I think they're pretty damn awesome in fact- it's the people who just don't know how to treat them that piss me off. It's like.. going into a jungle with tourists and no guide. Anyways, so he had 5 people from his LS and he wanted to do an ENM run for Dem, finish dem boss for an LSmate and do the same for holla. The dem ENM: You are what you eat, was kind of a pain because one of our tanks got aggro before our secondary tank could enter the fight. We got it down to 1% before losing (we were saving 2 hours for the main event y'know). Anyway, the dem fight was easy and we won quickly with 2 hours and everything. The holla ENM was more of the same really, we kited all of the bosses pretty much.

Now onto the holla boss itself:
Basically our setup was: WAR/NINx2, RNG/NINx2(me and Maddkid who is excellent), WHM, RDM. Sounds kinda nutty, but definitely the easiest setup I've personally done holla with. We lost the first time, not really used to the fight, and being kind of impatient. For our setup, kiting was really key, and it was pretty easy when we finally settled on a strategy. RDM ES Gravity, and tank 1 begins kiting immediately. WAR/NIN 2 begins rang-damaging (and actually she did a hell of a lot of damage, I parsed it). When gravity wears, generally tank 1 would take a little bit too much damage after a bit. Tank 2 vokes, while tank 1 goes to the entrance far away from the mob to get healed by the WHM or RDM without really upsetting hate at all. Continued this for a while, Rangers following the mob around and trying to maximize damage.

Two important things to remember here; 1) Don't buff at ALL. Really it's just better if no one buffs save for the kiting war's. 2) The wreaker doesn't use his AoE Sleep + Curse move till 25% life. That's when you call people to start keeping poison pots up.

For us, this was the point where he spammed the AoE sleep move constantly. Rangers and mages just out of range, doing damage while I'm watching the tanks just keep hate and resist sleep cus of their potions as this move just gets spammed to no end. It was pretty impressive. No 2 hours at this point, just poison potions we'd gotten off of a party who had just failed.

Very fun fight, although it took us 17 minutes. It was definitely full of strategy, and a welcome change from the usual "pray we're okay till astral flow".

Re: Corwynn-Red Mage: A Beginning
Hey Alu, we're basically the same level, so lets show them the point ina RDMs career when ultimate power is close, but so far.

I'm 71 and have died numerous time trying to take on things past my own means, and I get bored with things too easy. It's SO hard to wait till 75 to do anything fun And it's a bother to exp when I see how much exp I need

*sighs*

One step at a time I suppose.

Re: Corwynn-Red Mage: A Beginning
Yeah.. well maybe you're better off than me by a bit. I tried maat the other day and phailed ; ; It was my dream to be 1/1 on him lol. Oh well. I'm also trying to get my {Joy}. The XP has always been like that for me.. especially in my 60s when I login and look at my status to see.. Oh.. 20k tnl.. That's.. great. Plus I'm in an HNM shell but I can't lot on anything so that makes me wanna wait till 75 till I do that.. Plus I'm in a dynamis shell but I don't want to die if my XP isn't capped xD.

But yeah. One step at a time. I'm worrying about beating maat and then... The world!

P.S. Holy ****. People are commenting on my journal wtf.

Re: Corwynn-Red Mage: A Beginning
I also wanted to be 1/1 on him. But I guess that was a little ambitious of me, because despite all my planning, I ran in totally on the wrong day and not as prepared as I thought I would be. Anyway, don't worry, he's really retarded, so it'll happen eventually

I forgot to talk to him after I whupped him, so I was stuck at 1tnl during exp, lol. They waited in Ro'Maeve while I warped back and ran back to pt. Took too long I guess, pt members had to leave and it got all convulted, etc etc, you know how it goes.

So I soloed an EP Skeleton right outside Ro'Maeve lol and I got my lvl up and Fire III. :-D

I need to exp, even if it's for 2hours a day. 8k a day would get me to 75 in about 2ish weeks.

I also have somewhat a similar prob in terms of end-game stuff, but it's easier for me since my LS is only Sky. And furthermore, no lot priority, meaning that even if pullers and tanks can kite with Crimson Legs, it's not fair to someone who has put in more work and has more attendence/lot points. I like the way it works. People grumble, but it's all fair.

Dynamis and HNM linkshells look very ambitious, but I feel they require you to become slaves to their systems. Which isn't good if you're not even 75, and worse if you're just being used for your Refreshing.

On another note, I'm kinda guilty, cause I havent been to any events for the LS in the past 2 weeks due to me being tired (due to me staying up till 3am playing Harvest Moon *_*, effectively throwing off my entire week.). And ya know, Refreshers are important, even tho my LS has like 5 (first sky run I went to, I sat out half of it and went afk for some TV and no one noticed), there are times they're starved for RDMs. But oh well, I hope they're not TOO mad ^^

Enough rambling. We need to get to 75 so we can enjoy things like Utsu:Ni and Free Teles (I need 72 for that. I'm tired of Chocoing to Mea when I want to farm. . .)

Re: Corwynn-Red Mage: A Beginning
I know what you mean about the HNM LS thing. Mine is still sky but trying to move towards ground HNMs. The main problem I have is that they won't let me lot on -anything- unless I'm the level required to wear it. Which is kind of messed up but I can understand why. I've missed out on a lot of runs the past month or so because I've been tired / busy with school.. And you know when you login and someone /tells you "Get your *** to sky!" it doesn't exactly make you feel geared up and ready to go.

Like you said, it makes you feel like a slave to their system, especially when you're JUST there to refresh black mages so you can fight kirin.. Who happen to like to stand in all corners of the room so you have to make a complete run around to Refresh... >.> Okay, run-on rant but oh well .

I'm leaving for the next few weeks but when I get back I really intend on focusing on levelling and dynamis- which I've found very rewarding so far; sentimentally if not monetarily.

Re: Corwynn-Red Mage: A Beginning
Sky and end-game shit become really stressful. It's like playing Halo 2 with 12 yearolds.

I was a leader of a End-game LS and it was really stressful that most of my members would be off doin' something else then progressing. So.. I eventually said screw it I'll go play xbox360. Meh, FFXI kinda gets you down alot anyway.
