Was going to augment something on Andrzej, but forgot I had never done Fields of Valor on him (due to me taking an extended break from FFXI). So I tossed the Bee Spatha +1 over to Daiyumi and had her solo the NM in Valkurm. What do I get? ... Water Resistance +1... oh, and I can't send it back. Whoops

From what I've seen for augments, it looks like the best possible ones drop from the top tier NMs. It'd be nice if at least there was something you could do to only get positive results and not only get weather resistance. Kinda like how the contraptions that give the rune equipment work so that you don't get crystals.

You can't trade it anyway, it's higher than 50. Can only trade items up to level 50.

Just to clarify on this, the high level gears you may be seeing with augments are just strait drops and not traded like the sub-50 equips.
